In an interview with respected UK newspaper The Guardian (Sat 15th March, Guardian Guide) British comedy ace and all-round nice guy Simon Pegg revealed that recently he's been hanging out with "heterosexual life-partner" Nick Frost, and that they've been writing a new film.

Details are thin on the ground, but after a few projects without his Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz co-star, it's cool to hear anything about a potential new picture from the pair. Of their current activity, Pegg said...
"We're working on a road movie set in America about two British geeks. That's all I'm saying right now; it's hard to keep anything back these days."
Even though there's no mention of Edgar Wright, it's worth wondering: is this proposed film going to be the grande finale of 'The Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy'? Having tackled the horror genres and action genres in sublime style with Shaun of the Dead (a zom-rom-com) and Hot Fuzz (a balls-to-the-wall buddy-movie cop actioner... in Middle England) respectively, it'll be really interesting to see what the team can do with the road movie format.

What makes the Wright/Pegg/Frost films so good is that they incorporate so many loving references and pastiches into their very-British revisions, but yet keep things ...

The 99th romantic comedy of Cameron Diaz's career WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS... has debuted it's trailer online and guess what? It looks exactly the same as the other 98!

Written by Dana Fox (THE WEDDING DATE) and directed by Tom Vaughn (STARTER FOR TEN) the romantic comedy see's Diaz and Kutcher as two strangers who get married after a night of heavy drinking and gambling in Las Vegas but before they have chance to get a divorce, they win a $3 million jackpot.

Suddenely now that money is involved, divorce becomes a problem.

The trailer for the movie is below and it's pretty much exactly the film you would expect it to be. Unfunny slapstick with an non-existent chemistry and I think we all know the trajectory path of this movie's narrative. Remember to avoid the movie in May...

BETTER VERSION HERE.

Before jetting off and transforming himself into the handsome playboy Thomas Crown for a second time, former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan will star in VANILLA GORILLA, an odd sounding comedy/drama setup as a directing vehicle for Terry Loane. The actor revealed the news on his official website.

The movie is about an albino gorilla (aren't they extinct now?) who communicates to humans via sign language and is the center of an adventure between a father and daughter who try and resurrect their difficult relationship after the sudden loss of their mother/wife.

Yes post-Bond you have to pay the bills somehow. I believe the last known white gorilla was Snowflake, who died a few years ago after spending two decades in a Barcelona zoo...

Crappy family comedies aside, it's not all doom and gloom for Brosnan. THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR 2 should be a great way for him to climb back that ladder, especially with Paul Verhoeven behind the helm... he's exactly the kind of director that franchise needed.

Someone who could deliver something fun, sexy, exciting and high-octane.

Brosnan says locations in Dubai, Berlin and Istanbul are being scouted right now with production to begin straight after this small movie which presumably will have ...

It was to be the Battle of the Sexes on May 30th, the chick flick SEX AND THE CITY versus the guy's comedy FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL.

But the battle has been won before the pre-fight press conference. The Judd Apatow produced FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL has been pushed forward six weeks to a April 18th release where it will currently go up against the Al Pacino thriller 88 MINUTES says Variety.

Probably a smart move because I think the female half of a happy relationship would win that weekend and the men would be forced to sit through the fashion porn to keep the Missus happy.

Trailer for FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL movie is below. Will it be this year's KNOCKED UP?

My only worry over BE KIND, REWIND is it's ability to hold our interest for the length of a full feature. I mean sure it's going to be fun for the first 30 minutes of so to see Jack Black and Mos Def pretend to be GHOST BUSTERS or re-creating (and no doubt being superior to the original) their own version of RUSH HOUR but I can imagine it becoming very flat, very quickly.

The film from French visionary director Michel Gondry has premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and Cinematical's James Rocchi is the first person to tell us what he thinks of it. Sadly, I think he got bored with it...
Be Kind Rewind is a film where the plot is less important than panache, where the lack of elegance is made up for by an excess of enthusiasm.

Be Kind Rewind is about feel more than focus -- and who cares about a storyline when you have Jerry and Mike's re-imagined films, with their inventive camera tricks and dime-store magic, to fill the screen?

I could appreciate the whimsy and charm of Be Kind Rewind, but I also knew that bright whimsy and hand-made charm was pasted over almost nothing; still, ...

Ultra hot and sadly way too young t.v. actress Hayden Panettiere has been cast as a cheerleader in the comedy I LOVE YOU, BETH COOPER setup over at Fox Atomic.

It's a role she knows so well from her two seasons on Heroes that she may even be allowed to bring her own costume...

A spring start is set for the movie that originated from the mind of Larry Doyle (The Simpsons) and will see the Heroes actress play the titular character of a cheerleader who is the object of a valedictorian obsession. They set off on adventure when he proclaims his love for her at graduation.

Directing and production the feature will be Chris Columbus, best known recently for the first two HARRY POTTER movies but we shouldn't forget that he made his name in child comedies with HOME ALONE and then later with MRS. DOUBTFIRE.

He is a steady hand at the helm and a good actor's director who should help Panettiere make the transition from supporting actress, to leading lady.

The Sandra Bullock/Ryan Reynolds comedy THE PROPOSAL has found a director. Anne Fletcher, the helmer of this weekend's chick flick 27 DRESSES will direct the feature as her next film, with a Spring start date set in stone.

The script written by Peter Chiarelli (Off the Record) concerns a demanding female boss (Bullock) faced with deportation to Canada who agrees to a sham engagement and marriage with her young male assistant (Reynolds).

It all sounds very dull and the choice of director extremely predictable.

Reynolds is better than this and Bullock should have ditched these movies years ago. Anyone who has seen her work in the Truman Capote drama INFAMOUS will know that in this period of her career, she's by far the most interesting outside of her usual niche.

TEETH is a movie about man's absolute worst fear, the idea that the myth of the vagina denta (toothed vagina) being true... and on a hot woman no least.

It's a black comedy and it premiered at last year's Sundance film festival from feature virgin writer/director Mitchell Lichtenstein, starring Jess Weixler and John Hensley.

The movie has the near impossible task of going up against CLOVERFIELD this weekend on a limited release and in an effort to generate some buzz about the flick, Roadhouse Attractions have uploaded the opening 5 minutes of the movie for our viewing pleasure.

Wanna peak inside, or are you worried about being bitten? Love this opening (despite it's hammy acting) and I wanna feel more, no matter how much it hurts...

Bit part T.V. actress Olivia Wilde has landed her biggest part to date, playing the love interest of Jack Black in the upcoming Columbia Pictures biblical comedy YEAR ONE.

She will Princess Inanna in the movie which almost contains a who's/who in film comedy, with Harold Ramis (GROUNDHOG DAY) directing, Judd Apatow producing (KNOCKED UP), Owen Wilson executive producing (WEDDING CRASHES) and starring Black alongside the SUPERBAD duo Michael Cera and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

Oliver Platt, Juno Temple, Vinnie Jones and June Raphael are also on board.

Wilde's biggest film credit to date is in TURISTAS (seriously though, as long as you looked good in a bikini... you were cast in that flick) but it's her small t.v. roles in THE OC, HOUSE and her prominent role on THE BLACK DONNELLYS where she is probably most recognisable.

Shooting is currently underway in New Mexico and Lousiana. With a cast and crew of people who have made me laugh until I would cry many, many times in the past... I'm hopeful this will be the biblical comedy to end all biblical comedies (I'm not much of a MONTY PYTHON or DOGMA fan).

Fox 2000 have hired last year's Oscar winner Alan Arkin to join MARLEY & ME, a movie that presumably is back on schedule after Owen Wilson's personal problems in the Summer.

Officially, he is still expected to lead the movie alongside Jennifer Aniston with Variety reporting that the film will shoot once Aniston has completed the Brandon Camp movie TRAVELING.

Based on John Grogan's best seller, the movie will follow Wilson as a newspaper columnist who along with his wife decides to adopt a dog to give the couple a taste of parenthood. Of course the Labrador retriever is a pain in the ass, turning their lives completely in a spin. Arkin will play the head editor of the newspaper Wilson works at.

Whatever you think of Owen Wilson as an actor or the idea of this movie in general, it's really great to see the young man back in the groove and acting once again. Arkin is a great supporting actor who will no doubt bring the same proffesional coolness that Meryl Streep brought to director David Frankel's previous movie THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA.

I was holding out for Jason Reitman to helm, but oh well... gotta move on.

Variety say that Karyn Kusama will direct JUNO scribe Diablo Cody's written movie JENNIFER'S BODY, to be produced by Jason Reitman and to star Megan Fox.

The movie revolves around Fox as a cheerleader in a town whose perfect life comes under threat when she becomes possessed and begins to kill the young guys who want to bed her.

Fox Atomic began developing the movie in October when the widespread buzz for JUNO quickly spread across the web and it's success has continued with a $50 million+ domestic haul and no signs of slowing down just yet.

Kusama has one decent movie, and one bad movie on her CV with GIRLFIGHT and AEON FLUX, but it will be Cody's writings that will garner the most attention here. Shooting begins in April.

Karey Kirkpatrick has been hired to direct an adaptation of the John O'Farrell 2002 novel THE BEST A MAN CAN GET, and no it's not based on the cheesy Gillette shaving adverts, but is instead a comedy about fatherhood.

Variety say the project is being setup at Paramount and will be co-written by Kirkpatrick and O'Farrell once the strike is over...
Set in London, "The Best a Man Can Get: A Novel of Fatherhood and Its Discontents" revolves around a musician with major commitment problems that lead him into a double life. He bunks with three pals in a bachelor's flat, but he is also a married man and father of two small children who tells his exasperated wife he often sleeps in the studio, working hard on jingle writing.
O'Farrell's work has been compared to that of Nick Hornby, the talented British author whose books HIGH FIDELITY, ABOUT A BOY and FEVER PITCH have already been translated into films. So if you imagine the tone to that type of humor, you might see what we are getting at here.

Joblo have word that Oscar winner and the world's highest paid actress Reese Witherspoon will star and produce NICE, a movie adaptation of a Jen Sacks novel published in 1998.

The premise seems pretty simple. Good girl is too nice to break up with any of her boyfriends and after many failed attempts to actually say the words "your dumped", she actually decides to go kill her current partner. She manages to get away with the deed and well it worked the first time, so she does it again and again and again everytime she wants to break-up.

Maybe Ryan Phillipe got out when the going was good?

A nice change of pace for the squeaky clean Witherspoon and ya know this might not be too bad if they make it quite dark. I would love to see them go in the direction of MR. BROOKS and make it really horrifying and the comedy very very black... rather than the ironic humor I think this will go down.
I fear DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES: THE MOVIE here instead of something truly original like AMERICAN PSYCHO (which Reese starred in remember, hence the title of this post). But if they are smart, this could be interesting.

Judd Apatow's Darth Vader like desire to take over the comedy galaxy will continue with the Harold Ramis (GROUNDHOG DAY, CADDYSHACK) directed YEAR ONE which we first and subsequently last heard about on June 4th.

Apatow is producing the movie, currently set for a June 2009 release and despite having almost a full cast (Jack Black, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Vinnie Jones (huh?), Oliver Platt and more) we haven't heard a snippet about the plot or what it's actually about. Until now that is and if we had used our brains, we probably could have guessed it.

Whilst promoting BE KIND REWIND, Jack Black sporting a new hairstyle revealed to Collider that YEAR ONE is going to be a biblical comedy and we have to believe that it's being kept quite so far for the fear of generating the kind of controversy that movies like DOGMA and MONTY PYTHON AND THE LIFE OF BRIAN received in the past.
"It’s about the old testament. I’m just a dude wandering through biblical times. I’m not a famous character that you would have heard of before. Me and Michael Cera are just sort of wandering through, and you get to see all these old stories ...

YES MAN, the continuation of Jim Carrey's downward spiral into movie oblivion has received it's first bit of marketing online.

The movie directed by Peyton Reed (THE BREAK-UP) will see Carrey play a guy who decides to change his life by answering YES to everything, no matter how difficult or problematic that might prove to be. Basically it's a remake of LIAR, LIAR.

Bradley Cooper (as his best friend), Molly Sims and the cute Zooey Deschanel (as pictured below) also star. Yes that's right, Deschanel is the love interest despite being nearly twenty years younger than Carrey. Looks a bit odd doesn't it...

At least Carrey got himself a haircut I suppose. It looked mighty long for THE NUMBER 23 and the following post-interviews for that God awful flick. This opens opens at Christmas, but I'm not expecting much here... Carrey is really turning me off with his career right now.

2007 began with news about ZYZZYX ROAD, the Leo Grillo/Katherine Heigl/Tom Sizemore film that made history by becoming the lowest grossing movie of all time ($20 from one screen).

It's perhaps fitting that as the year comes to a close we hear about BLONDE AMBITION, a Jessica Simpson movie that has just racked up an astonishing $384 opening day.

/Film gives us the following:-
"Blonde Ambition averaged $48 per screen on Friday for a total box office of $384. Based on an $8 ticket price, that means that 6 people paid to see the movie at each of those theatres, and only 48 people went to see the movie! That’s amazing! One of the worst performances a movie has ever had.
"I am projecting that Jessica’s “star vehicle” will gross just $1,190 this weekend or $149 per location."
Simpson's movie only played on eight screens, but if these numbers are proof of anything, it's that Jessica is not a movie star. She belongs on reality television and the run of dreadful sounding movies she's doing will likely ensure that she returns to the small screen.

With BLONDE AMBITION, Simpson's clearly riffing on Melanie Griffith's turn in WORKING GIRL, and up next she'll ape Goldie Hawn's PRIVATE ...

Hmmm.

It's got Apatow's name on the picture but this time he had nothing to do with the writing or directing of FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL. This comes from the mind of Jason Segel who wrote the movie as his debut script and decided to give himself the lead role aswell (although he is a regular actor, as seen with his prominent role on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER) and is directed by debut director Nicholas Stoller.

The movie follows Segel as a guy who takes a vacation to Hawaii to get over his traumatic break-up with his T.V. star girlfriend, only to find that girlfriend has also gone to the Island with her new muse.

Kristen Bell plays the girlfriend and Russell Brand (disastrous casting from this trailer) plays the new boyfriend.

I've been quite fond of the idea for quite some time and I was hoping for another KNOCKED UP or THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN type humor with a neat and heartfelt story and the trailer does show glimses of it. Hope they press the issue of how hard a break-up can be, and really go into the depths that Apatow did with KNOCKED UP...

That's the best quality trailer on the web ...

Dan In Real Life is a romantic comedy-drama about Dan, a widower played by Steve Carell, who takes his three daughter along to an annual family gathering at his parents house where he meets an amazing woman named Marie (Juliette Binoche) who rekindles his lost emotional side that had been buried beneath his devotion to his daughters since the death of his wife. However, things aren't that simple - Marie is already in a relationship, and Dan faces an uphill struggle with internal and external obstacles to know for sure whether it is meant to be.

Sound contrived? It is. I'm not a fan of romantic comedies but there were a few names attached to this movie that gave me a little hope (for those of you wondering, Dane Cook wasn't one of them). Peter Hedges, the director and co-writer, wrote the novel that would later be converted into the moody and sensitive What's Eating Gilbert Grape, as well as adapting the screenplay for About A Boy, a fine pedigree there I'm sure you'll agree. Co-writer Pierce Gardner has said ...

Josh Greenbaum is a guy you won't have heard of. He has yet to make a feature film but he already has an award in his cabinet. Or his bedroom, maybe it's in his garage? Who knows.

The award he won was the MTV Movie Award for Film-Maker on Campus at the USC and he also shared the Coca-Cola Refreshing Film-Maker Award with a fellow graduate.

Variety say Greenbaum is to take off the safety armbands and will direct THE ART OF COOL, for Columbia Pictures, a movie that sounds like it might be going for the SUPERBAD crowd...
Story centers on a geeky student who discovers the classic book "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu and literally uses it as a survival guide for navigating the social politics of high school.

Studio paid $600,000 against $850,000 for Alex Sabeti's spec script last year.
Could be fun. We all know that school life is just about the biggest war zone most of us will ever experience in our lives and some of the pointers in that book might actually be closer to the truth than what you would think.

I feel an 80's revival of high school comedies are on the rise. Look out ...
