Julia Roberts and Clive Owen are reunited for the first time since Closer, but far from being a messed up couple in high society they're... well, they're a messed up couple again. But this time they're secret agents, which is much cooler. Plus Duplicity isn't based on a play, so more stuff happens.

The story begins in the 70s, or at least in the indiscriminate late 20th century. Ray Koval (Owen) spots a beautiful-ish woman with a large mouth and scrawny legs from across the room. It's Claire Stenwick (Julia Roberts). Despite a few awkward 'lines' he gets her up to his room. The problem is, it seems she planned it all along as he wakes up from his drug-induced slumber to find his room turned upside and Claire vanished. We then cut to the present, and Ray is now doing private work for a soap company and, you guessed it, Claire turns up there too.

What ensues is a mixture of between a kind of whodunnit thriller, a romance control and an affable comedy. (Think Mr. and Mrs. Smith but less vacuous, with less attractive stars, and less comedy scenes.) These elements are balanced really well, with the humour providing some nice ...

I enjoyed INSIDE MAN quite a bit, probably Spike Lee's most relaxed and entertaining movie he has yet made. A clever thriller, a nod to the best of the heist movies of the 70's and the news that the sequel is still forthcoming is very exciting for me.

Lee who decided against shooting original writer Russell Gerwitz's first draft two years ago to make MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA, updated MTV on what was happening with INSIDE MAN 2, letting us know that the previously discussed plot that saw Clive Owen conducting a diamond heist in New York has since been changed.

Though Lee won't tell us what to. He tells the site that HOTEL RWANDA screenwriter Terry George (who took over from Russell Gertwitz) has only just completed the first act of the script...
“I got an email from Terry George yesterday,” Lee told us. “He just finished—he’s at the end of the first act.”
Lee also lets us know that not only will stars Denzel Washington and Clive Owen be back but also Jodie Foster and Chiwetel Eijofor, two of the prominent supporting characters from the original.

And when will it start filming?
“If the script is up to snuff, we’ll be shooting it,” he ...

Tony Gilroy was responsible for one of the best movies of 2007 with his directorial debut MICHAEL CLAYTON and the BOURNE series screenwriter is back with DUPLICITY, a corporate thriller that reunites him with Tom Wilkinson, Academy Award nominated for CLAYTON.

But the bigger reunion is the one between CLOSER co-stars Clive Owen and Julia Roberts, the two leads of the movie who do have a undeniable chemistry with each other. DUPLICITY is the story of CIA officer Claire Stenwick (Roberts) and MI6 agent Ray Koval (Owen) who have left the world of government intelligence to cash in on the highly profitable cold war raging between two rival multinational corporations.

Another great character actor, Paul Giamatti, plays opposite Wilkinson as one as of the corporate bosses. That team-up almost feels like a tussle between which great actor can win the supporting player nod come Oscar night (next year's though of course).

Feels more light hearted and rather OCEAN'S ELEVEN like than the seriousness of MICHAEL CLAYTON. And with the title we can expect many, many, many twists on just whose side is everyone on, hopefully Gilroy will manage to keep it all interesting. He certainly has my faith ...

Two trailers premiered today for two flicks that I dare say were only on the middle blip of our radar. That is to say, they weren't ones we were counting down to see because of their subject matter but they are made by interesting enough talent that he might just dip into them come release time.

First up it's German director Tom Tyker's (RUN LOLA RUN, PERFUME: STORY OF A MURDERER) latest film THE INTERNATIONAL which stars Clive Owen and Naomi Watts. They plan an Interpol Agent (Owen) and a Manhatten D.A (Watts) who are thrust into bringing down one of the world's most powerful banks after they learn of a corruption plot used to finance terrorism and war.

And the second trailer is for Clint Eastwood's 1920's period drama CHANGELING, which was well reviewed at Cannes and stars Angelina Jolie whose stolen nine year old son has been returned to her five months after the disppearance, only to find it's not her actual son. John Malkovich and Amy Ryan co-star.
The movie looks typically moody from Eastwood, that infamous black and drab colour scheme of his present from the first frame. And so harshly robbed of an Oscar nom last year for ...

After nearly two years of hearing nothing on a previously discussed sequel to Spike Lee's financially most successful film to date Inside Man and The Hollywood Reporter today carry the news of who is writing the script for Universal's second helping of this tale.

Terry George, the writer of Reservation Road, Hotel Rwanda and Hart's War is in talks to pen the screenplay for Inside Man 2. The original was written by Russell Gerwitz, who is not back for this one.

The movie will pickup where the last movie left off but apparently will not be the same heist/situation. Clive Owen and Denzel Washington are both expected to return for the movie that will be again directed by Spike Lee.

The original movie release in the Spring of 2006 made $184 million worldwide and was Lee's biggest ever opening with $28.9 million.

It's been 13 months since we last heard anything on Second Sight, Universal Pictures' adaptation of the 1999 BBC t.v. thriller which starred Clive Owen as a detective struggling to solve a murder before he went blind from a rare degenerative eye disease.

But today we bring news of the man chosen to adapt the project, his name - Craig Rosenberg. He previously adapted a remake of A Tale of Two Sisters titled The Uninvited (which stars Elizabeth Banks & due out early 2009) and the Brett Ratner thriller After the Sunset.

He also wrote and directed Half Light, a little seen STV 2006 Demi Moore horror.

No actor is currently attached and it's unlikely that Clive Owen would be interested in reprising his role from the series now that he is a Hollywood star.
