Christopher Lee (Hammer's DRACULA, LORD OF THE RINGS) and Alan Rickman (SWEENEY TODD, DIE HARD), two of the greatest and most profilic screen villains of all time have joined Tim Burton's motion captured adaptation of ALICE IN WONDERLAND over at Disney.

Rickman will play the hookah-smoking Caterpillar but Lee's role is undisclosed.

Neither casting is all that surprising.

Rickman brought his A-Game to SWEENEY TODD and of course has one of the most recognisable villain voices in the industry.

Lee who was worked with Burton on SLEEPY HOLLOW and CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY was set to work with the director again on SWEENEY TODD, until Burton decided to cut the ghosts aspect from his tale. That was said to have pissed Lee off but it now looks like they have settled on their differences.

Also now confirmed for the movie is Danny Elfman, who will be scoring the film for his long time friend and partner. Elfman's skills, understandably, weren't need for TODD as the Stephen Sondheim music was already in place.

Elfman confirmed it last week...

Burton has put together an amazing cast...

Mia Wasikowska as Alice
Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter
Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen
Anne Hathaway as The White King
Alan Rickman as ...

The Guiness World Records have officially announced that working 86 year old legendary actor is living "in the centre of the Hollywood universe".

The University of Virginia have spent far too many hours mapping the working relationships between over a million actors and actresses and crowned Lee, the most connected living actor.

So it should be the Six Degree's of Christopher Lee right?

It should be no real surprise. Lee already holds the record for the most amount of on screen film appearances, amassing over 300 film and t.v. roles which is a tag he was labelled with in 2001 for a career that began in 1948.

He is the only actor to have worked on the two legendary franchises of LORD OF THE RINGS and STAR WARS, alongside his great friend Peter Cushing he was the face of Hammer Horror and will be forever famous for his roles as DRACULA and as Scaramanga in Bond movie THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN.

There's also his personal favourite movie THE WICKER MAN.

He also just happened to be the cousin of Bond creator Ian Fleming. He is mega connected isn't he?

The Guiness World Records also list Samuel L. Jackson as the highest earning actor after amassing ...

Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro stated in the live internet chat from a few weeks back that any of the Lord of the Rings actors who wished to return would be welcomed and fit into The Hobbit.

Unsurprisingly, we've heard many of the alumni voice their interest in coming back since the film was greenlit - the latest being Christopher Lee who played the evil wizard Saurman in the three films.

Lee was the only acting member of the crew to have ever met the book's author J.R.R. Tolkien before his death and claims he reads the LOTR books once a year religiously, so I can't say I'm surprised at all by these comments to Empire...
“I’ve read the books time and again,” said the 86-year-old. “Originally Saruman The White and the rest of the wizards, or the Istari as they call them, were immortal. There were five of them, two of them never appear, I know their names but they never appear, and the only three that are mentioned are Saruman The White, Gandalf The Grey and Radagast The Brown who you never see – so basically it’s two wizards.

“They lived for thousands of years and they were sent to the ...

Rejoice!

Crueler than the burning of Edward Woodward has come the news to the 90-odd crew primed and ready to work on the brand new reimagining of The Wicker Man that filming has been scrapped at the 11th hour.

The movie titled Cowboys for Christ, which was written and to be directed by the original Wicker Man helmer Robin Hardy and starring Christopher Lee, Joan Collins, Graham McTavish, Paul Wesley and Susie Amy was to begin filming in Scotland this week but the Dumfries and Galloway council have confirmed that financing has fallen through.

It has really been a last minute decision, all of the 90 man crew had been put up in four star hotels in the area.

No word if they are going to give financing another go or if the film will now be scrapped indefinitely. Hopefully it will because despite the additions of some of the original crew, do we really need to see another re-tread of what is an absolutely perfect original film?

Robert Englund and Christopher Lee, two of the biggest horror icons of their respective generations and two men who would probably both be the first to admit they have starred in an awful lot of crap in their long career's, are to work together on screen for the first time it's been revealed by Variety.

The movie in question is THE VIJ, a Gothic horror film based on a dark fantasy novel written by Russian writer Nickolaj Gogol which Englund will direct, and Lee will star.

“The Vij” revolves around an evil genie who conditions the actions of a young priest, leading him to commit murder and fall in love with an old witch who is actually not what she seems...Besides Christopher Lee, who will play a God-like character called The Father, “The Vij” will star Englund and Rome-based Russian actress Olga Schuvalova as Alina, the female lead. Casting for other roles, including the wayward priest called Khoma, is still underway.
Cool, Englund's acting in the movie too. Sounds very similar to those old Christopher Lee/Hammer Horror movies, especially with The Father, sounding a lot like a Dracula-stature character. But however camp and ridiculous those movies might have been, I do have a ...

Review by Michael Edwards

[rating: 2.5]

Now I know this is a somewhat belated review, what with the film having been out for two weeks now, but I have to say it is that which has inspired me to put something up about this film. Why that is will hopefully become clear...

For those of you who have been hiding away somewhere reclusive for the past few weeks, perhaps avoiding the consumer-driven festivities of the season or simply escaping the icy harshness of winter in sunnier climes, The Golden Compass is one of the big-billed Christmas blockbusters and is based on the first installment of novelist Phillip Pullman's widely acclaimed and much-loved His Dark Materials trilogy. The tale is set in a parallel universe where our souls are physically separate from us and embodied in animal-shaped 'daemons' which stay ...
