It grossed $624 million worldwide, so a sequel to Hancock was always envitable - it was just a case of offering Will Smith money he couldn't refuse.

The Hollywood Reporter say Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara (two writers on The Shield) have been hired to work closely with Smith, director Peter Berg and the original producing team to come up with a story idea for a sequel which more than likely will delve further into the 3,000 year old relationship between the two Gods played by Will Smith and Charlize Theron, who tragically are never able to be with one another but keep being drawn by this force and pull to keep ending up back together.

It's also a safe bet to predict that another God will probably be the main villain.

I absolutely hated the first movie which completely butchered what SHOULD have been a dark and compelling look at a superhero could save the world but couldn't make the woman of his dreams fall in love with him, and how this inability to get what he wants sends him into a deep depression involving alcoholism, attempted suicide and even rape. Now that's the movie I wanted to see!

Things may be looking up in the thriller department, depending on your perspective of the Cruise-meister and the man Hollywood are desperately trying to make into the next big thing, possibly quicker than he could be possibly ready for.

The Hollywood Reporter say Avatar and Terminator Salvation's Sam Worthington has replaced Tom Cruise in the Hollywood remake of the French spy thriller The Tourist, as Cruise (quite smartly) has chosen to reunite with Cameron Diaz for a comedy from James Mangold.

Charlize Theron is still on board as the female interpol agent who uses an American tourist (now Worthington), so that she can get rid of an elusive criminal with whom she once had an affair. Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day helmer Bharat Nalluri directs, with a January start date.

The Worthington replacement might be a savvy move, as Cruise's star power in the thriller genre has dimmed a bit, and Worthington is probably starting to get some recognition with the public. Though he's some way away from selling movie tickets on his name/face alone. Maybe Avatar will change that?

Okay so, it’s a little late, but here goes…

This is my Everest. Trying to write a review of HANCOCK that in no way mentions the “film of two halves; first good, second not so” argument, despite the obvious temptation. But you know what, that wasn’t the major concern that I was left with after the credits rolled; instead, I got the undeniable sense of a good film suffering a monumental identity crisis, much like Smith’s wayward Marvel. HANCOCK could reasonably be classified as a Superhero movie, a (confused) morality tale, a buddy movie or a straight up good guys versus bad guys flick, among various others, but it is never wholly any of them. The film just has too many ideas- most of them good on their own- that are never afforded enough focus or development to really matter, leaving me slightly perplexed. I’d hate to pin it all on bad direction, as I have a lot of time for Peter Berg- THE KINGDOM was vastly underrated, and I wait in intrigued anticipation for his take on DUNE and HERCULES- but it all smacks a bit of Fledgling-Director Syndrome, trying to shoehorn too much in to impress a “superstar” Producer- ...

Not that most men would usually be picky when it comes to choosing between Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron but when you once played 007, I guess you get that opportunity. Pierce Brosnan has gone on record this week firmly letting us know which beauty he would prefer to act alongside if THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR sequel ever gets off the ground.

His heart is firmly with the blondes...

"Charlize Theron is someone who I've always admired. I think she's someone who has acquitted herself grandly. Nothing against Angelina Jolie. I think she's a magnificent actress. But Charlize has a poise about her and has an inner strength and femininity which I really like to watch."
Jolie was first rumored for the movie last year and we thought the movie was near development when Paul Verhoeven (BASIC INSTINCT, TOTAL RECALL) joined the project but still it stalls.

Incredibly pretty actresses' making themselves look rather ugly for certain dramatic roles has always helped critics praise their work who can now see past their beauty and as if by magic, for the first time notice how good of a performer they really are.

Strangely, it also helps when they turn lesbian!

It worked for an Oscar win for Nicole Kidman on THE HOURS (lesbo with a funny nose). It also worked for an Oscar win for Charlize Theron in MONSTER (lesbo, who goes 100% make-over ugly!), both their respective career highlights. Now both actresses' are to work together for the first time on THE DANISH GIRL and it's Nicole that gets the controversial physical role, playing the world's first Post-Op Transsexual, Theron plays his/her wife.

It's the true story of Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener whose portraits became popular in the 1920's. Greta (Theron) encouraged Einar (Kidman) to adopt a female guise for one shoot but Einar loved the look and feeling so much she took the landmark operation to become the word's first Post-Op Transsexual in 1931 that shocked both the world and their marriage to the core.

Presumably, a male lead will be needed to play Einar pre-op.

If talks go well, Charlize Theron will star opposite lead Tom Cruise in THE TOURIST, the Hollywood remake of the 2005 French thriller ANTHONY ZIMMER.

Theron will play a female interpol agent who uses American tourist Tom Cruise, so that she can get rid of an elusive criminal with whom she once had an affair.

Christopher McQuarrie, who recently scribed Cruise's VALKYRIE, is currently redrafting Julian Fellowes script (VANITY FAIR, GOSFORD PARK) according to Variety.

This is a project that has been growing since director Bharat Nalluri (MISS. PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY) boarded the film in June, landed the Cruise-meister in August and now has an expected March start date to begin shooting.

India born Nalluri, who made his name working on the BBC spy series Spooks before helming some of the cop show Life on Mars, certainly has the pedigree for this kind of material. He may be the most talented director without a forums page on IMDB... (now that tagline should be used on the poster!).

Those annoyed by Francis Lawrences' adaptation of I Am Legend and it's heavy use of CGI for a tale that could have been told in a claustrophobically small manner, will be happy to hear that director John Hillcoat has made it a point to have no CGI in his end of the world tale adapted from Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer prize winning novel The Road.

Speaking to the USA Today, Hillcoat says only the fictional story of a father and son who travel across a barren and apocalyptic countryside after a mystery catastrophe is made up, the scenery and settings are very real. They shot the film in Pittsburgh...
"It's a beautiful place in fall with the colors changing," Hillcoat says. "But in winter, it can be very bleak. There are city blocks that are abandoned. The woods can be brutal. We didn't want to go the CGI world."

"We wanted the heightened reality in the book."
Opening in the U.S. on November 14th (January in the U.K), Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee play the father and son, in a small role Charlize Theron plays Mortensen's wife and finally Robert Duvall makes up the core cast.

Ah, now this is the kind of scene I was looking forward to watching in Peter Berg's (The Kingdom, Friday Night Lights) superhero movie Hancock.

The one's you don't get in the usual superhero movie, the one's where it's a fully realised environment where we see how Hancock - who power is known to everybody in the world it seems, tries to integrate with the common man.

And look at Charlize Theron. She is just gushing over him right now, she is so hot for him. Poor Jason Bateman would never be able to compete with the raw magnetism of Will Smith.

So he doesn't age huh?
Interesting. I wonder if he saw Citizen Kane on it's first run or if he ran into Nestor Carbonell from Lost on his travels?

Some dark undertones at play here and a very uncomfortable shuffling social feeling to it that you just don't get from the Batman or Iron Man movies. In it's favour Hancock is the first superhero movie that doesn't have years of comic book canon behind it for us to worry about how the film is dealing with major events, storylines and characters - so the sky is the limit here.

They can do what they ...

During American Idol in the U.S. last night an extended trailer for Will Smith's quickly approaching twist on the superhero genre titled Hancock played and now we have it for you below too.

I'm really starting to get into this movie now. Hancock doesn't quite look so much of an ass as I thought he was going to be. I still can't say I love the suit but it kinda blends in with the environment and this movie looks so much more epic and summer blockbustery (that can't possibly be a word!) than I thought it would.

There's no doubt that this is less on drama than it will be on delivering another action superhero film. And I like they have kept much of Charlize Theron away from these trailers so far, I believe her part is quite a big sub-plot but they have kept that away from the trailers and that's fair play to them.

Peter Berg is a great director but this is quite different to anything he has done before. I'm actually more positive than I have ever been for this film right now...

This movie is going to be HUGE when it opens in just over four months time. I don't know if it will do I Am Legend money but come on, Will Smith playing an asshole drunk superhero is such a cool premise.

Wasn't all that keen on the first trailer but I like Peter Berg's directing style and I really hope the movie ventures into an adult drama style love triangle between Jason Bateman, Charlize Theron and Will Smith. And I don't mean Spider-Man style love triangle, I mean an adult one... full of sexual drama and scenes of real hurt.

Love these photo's except the very first one, which looks to have been cropped from an upcoming poster or something?

There's also a new viral site online if you are so inclined.

We've heard for months now that Guy Pearce would star in THE ROAD, the next adaptation of a Cormac McCarthy novel after the awesome NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.

Viggo Mortensen (early reports said that Pearce had replaced Viggo, but that was later squashed) and Charlize Theron star are 100% locked for the picture but we are still awaiting some kind of firm confirmation on Pearce's involvement.

A firm "no comment" was the response that Bloody Disgusting got from Dimension Films when they attempted to get a confirmation on Pearce and also veteran Robert Duvall who their official source claims will have a role in the movie.

All this comes on the day that The Hollywood Reportersay that 11 year old Kodi Smit-McPhee will play Mortensen's son in the tale of a months-long journey across a barren U.S. landscape after a cataclysmic event destroyed most of life on Earth.

If it's any indication of Pearce and Duvall's likely involvment in the picture, the source at BD also told them McPhee would be in the picture before the trade announcement broke this morning.

THE ROAD will begin filming later this month under the lens of John Hillcoat, the director of THE PROPOSITION.

Charlize Theron, soon to be wowed by the superhero talents of Will Smith in this summer's "this still sounds like a porno" movie HANCOCK, has signed on to play real life 40's & 50's Hollywood starlet Hedy Lamarr in an upcoming biopic of the popular late actress.

The film to be directed by Amy Redford (daughter of Robert) will be Theron's next led film once she was completed work on THE BURNING PLAIN and her small part in THE ROAD.

Born in 1913, Hedy Lamarr was an Austrian-born American actress whose beauty captivated Hollywood audiences in the mid 20th century with memorable performances such as Delilah in Cecil De Mille's epic SAMSON AND DELILAH, and also in productions like ZIEGFIELD GIRL, WHITE CARGO and her American film debut ALGIERS.

It's claimed she could have been an even bigger star if it wasn't for the fact she lost out on many roles to her European rival Ingrid Bergman, though her contribution to the film industry was great and she was herself awarded a Star on the Hollywood boulevard.

Lamarr married six times and is sometimes recognised more for her small career as an inventor where she came up with an early version of a WI-FI ...
