That's down under in Australia and not the Rabbit Hole!

The Hollywood Reporter say 18 year old actress Mia Wasikowska is in final talks for the titular character in Burton's motion captured Beowulf style, 3-D Digital take on Lewis Carroll's classic fable Alice in Wonderland.

She is very much an unknown kid, her cinematic CV reads off a pretty small role in the Aussie horror film Rogue and supporting parts in both Edward Zwick's Defiance and the Amelia Earhart biopic which have yet to be released. This would be her first leading role and the end of a very long search for Burton and his casting team.

Adapted from Linda Woolverton, a scribe who wrote two of Disney's classics of the last decade The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, principal photography begins in November for a Christmas 2010 release.

LOVED Sweeney Todd, Burton got his magic back after a couple of mis-fires. With this and Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carroll, we have two stories we have already seen told a million times before - but not quite the way these guys are gonna do it.

On Thursday, Leonardo DiCaprio will meet with Quentin Tarantino to discuss the "suave but cunning Nazi role, The Jew Hunter Hans Landa" in the director's first war movie, Inglorious Bastards.

The part is one of the lead roles in the film, alongside that of Aldo Raine which has now been confirmed to have been offered to Brad Pitt. Allegedly, Pitt and Tarantino met yesterday about the project, though you would think the actor had other things on his mind with the birth of his twins to his partner Angelina Jolie.

Though both actors are two of the highest paid men in Hollywood, the producers believe they will have no trouble finding a studio to finance the project because of the high profile of the three men involved, with more expected on the way soon.

Early talk about the film linked older A-list stars Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger to the project but so far, Tarantino has gone for the top stars of modern day cinema.

Conveniently for Pitt, the film will shoot in Germany and France from October, the latter being his current place of residence. Rarely in the past have actors turned down Tarantino, and never has an actor's career suffered ...

Having played the Iconic comic book hero Tony Stark with such ease, charisma and likeable charm, Robert Downey Jr. is a serious Hollywood star right now and this has to be seen as a major coup for Brit director Guy Ritchie.

Variety say Downey Jr. has agreed to star as Sherlock Holmes in Ritchie's new big budget film drama of the famous detective from Baker Street.

Shooting begins in October, from a polished script draft by Anthony Peckham (Don't Say A Word).

No word on who will play Dr. Watson, or whether the villainous Professor Moriarty is in the film.

Warner Bros. are desperate to get the project under-way before Columbia and Judd Apatow's spoof comedy version which is also being fast tracked with Sacha Baron Cohen (as Holmes) and Will Ferrell (as Watson) starring in a script by Tropic Thunder scribe Etan Cohen.

Downey Jr already has an Oscar nomination in his bag for playing a British legend, albeit a real life one in Charles Chaplin. Downey Jr's version of Holmes could be the most charismatic but at the same time neurotic than we have ever seen before. Can't wait to see it.

It feels like it has taken a life time to happen but finally Quentin Tarantino's decade in the making World War II epic Inglorious Bastards looks to be prepping for an October start date, as he wants this baby in the can early next year ready for a premiere at Cannes.

Ambitious of course but certainly not impossible if everything runs smoothly for him. Nikki Finke at her Deadline Hollywood Daily blog says the project has been offered to Universal, Sony, Warner Bros. and Paramount with Harvey Weinstein of course producing AND that Brad Pitt is "confirmed" to be in talks for the movie.

If he accepts, it will be Pitt's first war movie and the first time he has worked with the directing side of Tarantino. He did of course read his lines and play one of his characters early in his career with True Romance which Tarantino wrote but Tony Scott directed.

After the disaster of Grindhouse, understandably the studio's are thinking long and hard over whether they can trust Quentin with their cash but a few more castings like this and they will soon come around.

And Quentin lives up to his word. He said he wanted his movie to be ...

Adding to the already big star cast of the new King Lear film adaptation, The Guardian report that Naomi Watts will play the third sister alongside the previously announced Keira Knightley and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Anthony Hopkins plays the title role in the Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote) version of the Shakespeare classic, a role he first performed in 1987!

Stern says...
"The one thing that I'm staying away from is stunt casting," said Stern, "so there won't be the American comedian, but there will be some really great actors playing smaller roles that will make a lot of sense."
He went on to say that we can expect to hear some further big casting very soon. The project is already the highest profile Shakespeare work since the 2004 under-rated movie The Merchant of Venice, one Al Pacino's best performances of recent years.

Personally, I'm still a little saddened that it won't be Ian McKellen starring in this adaptation but I don't need to remind anyone that Hopkins is still one of the finest actors around. Now let's hope Stern keeps the campness of movies like The Other Boleyn Girl and Elizabeth: The Golden Age on low and goes out and gives us a REAL tragedy ...

Seductive, authoritative and occasionally creepy actress Tilda Swinton has joined the hastly moving Roman Polanski thriller The Ghost according to Variety.

She will play the ex Prime Minister's (Pierce Brosnan) wife who has an affair with the ghost writer scribing his memoirs (Nicolas Cage). But it's not just the ghost writer who has something to hide, as the skeletons in the PM's closest begin to put his life in serious danger.

Production begins in September on the movie based on a Robert Harris novel, who also co-wrote the adaptation with Polanski.

Swinton finally this year won her first Oscar for her magnificent performance in Michael Clayton. Her biggest task here though is to drum up chemistry with Cage because he ain't no George Clooney with the ladies these days.

The great Roman Polanski has begun casting his next film, the political thriller The Ghost - an adaptation of a Robert Harris novel which has still yet to make it to paperback.

I'm interested in reading it but I'm such a tight git at the moment and besides, hardbacks or even over sized paperbacks as I recall this one being, aren't as easy to carry around. So I haven't parted with my cash for it yet, in other words.

According to MTV, Pierce Brosnan (as fictional leader Prime Minister Adam Lang) and Nicolas Cage (as his ghostwriter) will lead the film...
Inspired in part by Tony Blair, the novel picks up steam when the ghostwriter learns privileged details about a scandal which threatens to engulf the ex-Prime Minister. Soon, he finds himself in personal jeopardy, and must learn to balance his commitments to Lang with his own safety.
You may remember, the project came about in November when Polanski had failed to get the adaptation of the epic historical fiction novel Pompeii off the ground, which was also written by Harris. Polanski was then advised to read his latest book The Ghost, and he loved it.

Polanski had been searching for some time for a ...

Though they don't give a source, MTV claim the awesome and soon to be seen as a sex obsessed Chuck Palahniuk character in the upcoming Choke - actor Sam Rockwell has joined the biopic of pornstar turned political activist Linda Lovelace.

The movie is titled Inferno and you may recall the news back in January, Anna Faris will play the title role in her first real dramatic role.

Faris says to MTV...
“You’re not going to even know who I am,” she half-joked, discussing her plans for the portrayal. “I’m not there right now, but I will be when the time comes. I’ll be in a very dark place.”
Linda Lovelace was a legendary porn star who found fame in the early 70’s movie Deep Throat, only to then become a big spokeswoman against pornography claiming she was abused and forced into sexual acts she wanted no part of.

Matthew Wilder (Your Name Here) directs.

Faris next stars, fittingly, in a movie about a playboy bunny girl due out in October.

We have some further developments on the Robin Hood casting story from Friday, AICN are debunking the rumor that Christian Bale has been offered the part.

Also today, Latino Review are running the scoop of a more conventional casting choice for the film. Someone that actually looks like the image of Robin Hood you probably have in your head.

They say Russell Crowe himself has pitched the idea to Universal and Ridley Scott for them to cast actor Sam Riley, who portrayed Ian Curtis in the much praised biopic of the Joy Division frontman titled Control. It appears Crowe was a big fan of the film and is basing the whole casting choice from that performance alone, which I guess we have to also as Riley hasn't been in much else.

The site claim this source is from a very trusted mole, who has given them some great scoops in the past, including the casting of Jake Gyllenhaal for the Prince of Persia adaptation.

Certainly a more conventional casting choice and I do very much like the idea of a non-star for the part but this guy looks too innocent to me. He looks like someone who carries a great vulnerability on his shoulder ...

Christian Bale could be set to continue his legacy of playing famously iconic and already established cinematic characters on screen if Ridley Scott has his way according to a rumor in the Daily Mail.

They say Scott is desperate to sign up the Welsh actor for his contemporary movie about the Sheriff of Nottingham where Bale would play the iconic character of Robin Hood, depicted here as a notorious and not so sympathetic outlaw.

It's said that costume fittings are beginning next week, so Scott will have to find his man for Hood soon, the paper claiming that it's Bale's role if he wants it.

William Hurt (as King John perhaps or Guy of Gisbourne... maybe Little John - presumably Hood's men are villains too?) and Vanessa Redgrave are also in talks, with the young Academy Award nominated Atonement star Saorise Ronan also on board, apparently of course.

Earlier this week, Sienna Miller joined the cast as Maid Marian. Russell Crowe has been on board for the Sheriff's part since before Ridley Scott joined the project in April 2007.

Of course, it would be a quick reunion for Bale/Crowe who worked extremely well together on the brilliant Western 3:10 to Yuma and would actually be ...

Feisty British actress Sienna Miller will play Robin Hood's love interest Maid Marian in Ridley Scott's epic Nottingham, a movie told from the point of view of the usually evil Sheriff of Nottingham (Russell Crowe).

She said: "It's happening. I just found out. It's the most exciting news in the world. It's ridiculous. But there's this looming actor's strike, so it's not 100% sure that it's going to be made, but it's looking pretty certain."
Universal Pictures are hoping to release the film on November 6th 2009. The script comes from the talented Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River).

Now for me, unlike Robin Hood (who has been forever defined by Errol Flynn) and the Sheriff (likewise for Alan Rickman), there has yet to be a really stand out performance as Maid Marian in any previous adaptation of this material.

Now does Miller really exude any confidence in you believing she might be the first to get this role right?

It was just under a year ago (June 21st) that Dreamworks and Universal Pictures teamed up in a joint venture deal that would bring the pulp sci-fi/western comic book series Cowboys & Aliens to the big screen as a potential big screen tentpole in 2010.

Now comes word from The Hollywood Reporter that the man of the moment, Robert Downey Jr. is in talks for the lead role.

"Cowboys & Aliens" derives from a graphic novel written by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley from an original idea by Rosenberg. The story centers on an Old West battle between the Apache and Western settlers, including a former Union Army gunslinger named Zeke Jackson (Downey), that is interrupted by a spaceship crashing into the prairie near Silver City, Ariz.

The story draws a parallel between the American imperialist drive to conquer the "savage" Indians with its advanced technology and the aliens' assault on Earthlings, who must join together to survive the invaders' attack.
After a decade of development and several different writers at various studio's, it's the team of Children of Men scribes Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus whose work has convinced a studio to fully go ahead and commit to the project. They also ...

Werner Herzog has truly gone crazy with his upcoming Bad Lieutenant. Not sufficed with casting the least interesting A-list Hollywood star around as his lead but now he has gone out and offered a part to Eva Mendes, with whom said actor Nicolas Cage struggled to generate even a spark of chemistry with in Ghost Rider.

This comes just a week or two after Herzog claimed his version of Bad Lieutenant wasn't a remake which is an outright lie as far as I'm concerned because the Harvey Keitel original was not based on a book or any other form of source material, so if you are borrowing the title and basic concept of the film then no matter how different it may be... it is still a remake.

Cage knows this more than most. His embarrassing turn in The Wicker Man in 2006 was a remake despite the big changes to the plot, tone and narrative.

So it's Eva Mendes then, as long as she accepts the role for the Nu Image/Millennium Production which shoots late summer. Herzog, quite remarkably, got a stunning performance out of limited comedic actor Steve Zahn in the brilliant Rescue Dawn - but he has now given himself ...

Eric Bana has been confirmed as one of the leads in Judd Apatow's semi-autobiographical film about stand up comedy titled Funny People. Bana, a former stand up himself will be playing the husband to Leslie Mann (Apatow's real life wife), so you could justifably say Bana is playing Apatow in the movie.

Variety say that Jason Schwartzman and Jonah Hill (what a suprise) have also joined the cast, which is toplined by Adam Sandler and also Seth Rogen. Plot details are still being kept hush hush, though it's believed that it focuses on a comedian who has suffered a near death experience.

Production begins mid September on the Universal and Columbia Pictures film due out next year, which marks the third written and directed material from Apatow after the brilliant Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin.

I called this one!

Back in September when it was first announced that Susanne Bier (Things We Lost in the Fire) had setup the light hearted comedy Lost for Words at Working Title about a British film star who falls in love with his Chinese female director but can only communicate with her via a flirtatious translator I said...
British comedy vet Richard Curtis is one of the flick’s producers which probably bodes well for the picture and if they go for someone with the humor of British actor Hugh Grant, then this could be an interesting movie. I quite like the premise actually, as it’s a slightly new spin on the cliche movie love triangle.
And then today, wouldn't ya know it - Variety say Hugh Grant and Zhang Ziyi (as the film-maker) are in talks for the picture.

For Grant, it's his first picture since the disappointing Music & Lyrics last February and for Ziyi Zhang, it continues her broadening out into the Hollywood sphere after voicing her talents in TMNT and starring in the upcoming drama The Horseman due out in August.

Jamie Curtis (brother to producer Richard) and Dan Mazer (Borat) wrote the script with shooting to begin in September. Lots ...

Variety say Bruce Willis is in talks to play the Kane half of the rotten duo Kane & Lynch, pictured left on this promotional image of the Edios Interactive video game which is to be made into a feature film over at Lionsgate from the same producers who gave us the Hitman adaptation last year.

Willis will play Adam "Kane" Marcus, a mercenary who makes an unlikely alliance with a schizophrenic killer named James Lynch. The duo is forced on a mission to retrieve a stolen microchip. The vidgame has sold 2 million copies worldwide since its launch in November, 2007.
Brit Simon Crane - the second unit and stunt coordinator of Hancock, X-Men 3: The Last Stand, Troy and currently on Willis' upcoming sci-fi thriller The Surrogates, will make his feature directing debut. Kyle Ward wrote the script.

Lionsgate are now on the hunt for an actor who can generate some great chemistry with Willis (apparently Billy Bob Thornton has been heavily rumored) to play Lynch with filming set to begin before the end of the year.

Would love to see a nasty full on version of Pulp Fiction - if it just stayed on two gangsters like John Travolta and Samuel L. ...

34 year old British actor Matthew Marsden who spent sometime on the cack British soap Coronation Street but has more recently made a big breakthrough in movies with roles in Rambo and Resident Evil: Extinction has joined the cast of the Transformers sequel.

He will play "Graham", a member of the British Special Forces who teams with the returning Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel as the military side of the film as the battle between the Transformers takes on a more global scale. Apparently the role of Graham began life very small but once director Michael Bay got to meet Marsden in person, he added much more beef to the role which should now play a significant part in the film.

Serious filming is expected to begin in a matter of weeks as Bay currently formulates all his vehicles for the shoot.

The movie will be out next June.

Ok, so we know Judd Apatow is a big fan of Munich.

Or at least we know that he wrote a character that was a big fan of Munich, which in turn most likely means he enjoyed it too. Or maybe he just used it for comedic value and has never even seen the movie?

Ah well. We know that he is aware of Munich at the very least...

The word from CHUD is that Bana is in talks with Apatow for his next movie, which we found out a few days ago would revolve around a stand-up comedian and would be part semi biographical from the comedy genius. Now here's something I didn't know which adds just that extra veritas to the possible rumor and casting. Bana started life in Australia as a stand up comedian! PERFECT!If talks are true, Bana has been offered a big role... playing husband to Leslie Mann. Also on board are Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen but the title of the film is as yet unknown.
