The Coens are back on our screens again, and this time it's a little less bleak... or is it?

Billed as a comedy, BURN AFTER READING which finally opens in the U.K. today is a disjointed and disorientating tale of the haphazard. When pompous secret agent Osbourne Cox (John Malkovich) is made redundant he decides to write his memoirs, but when a disc copy of it is found by two losers who work in a gym (Frances McDormand and an almost unrecognisable Brad Pitt) they mistake it for sensitive information and hatch a scheme to use it as their ticket to the big time.

As the web of deceit and confusion expands it draws in pathological liar and sex addict Harry Pfarrer (George Clooney) and mild-mannered gym manager Ted Treffon (Richard Jenkins), before spinning out of control into its farcical conclusion.

You can tell that this movie was a side project written at the same time as NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.It shares the themes of isolation, loneliness and its complete lack of faith in humanity. Unlike NO COUNTRY, however, BURN AFTER READING decided to put a darkly comic slant on this whole morbid world view: a bold and interesting choice to say ...

We are ever closing in on the September 12th U.S. release date for the next Coens Brothers movie, Burn After Reading - a dark comedy that sees George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich and Tilda Swinton star.

The movie is playing next week at the Toronto International Film Festival and Obsessed With Film hopes to have someone down there covering the event, this is top of our list of must see movies.

And I have to say, I've really been digging the posters for this movie. Just gorgeous...

Meanwhile the reviews for the movie have been coming in from advanced press screenings.

Variety called it "silly", The Hollywood Reporter were so-so calling it a slow burner, The Guardian hated it, mixed reviews are everywhere right now.

No Country For Old Men finished on a 94% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes but as soon as we saw this trailer, we always knew this one wasn't going to be for everyone. I like the look of it, but I can see why some wouldn't...

Look for our review next Weekend!

ooooh, I like this.

It's the new poster for Burn After Reading, that ensemble caper comedy from the guys who did that little movie you might have seen last year No Country For Old Men which opens in September.

As /Film quite rightly point out, it's a homage to a different era of movie posters... most explicitly to the works of Saul Bass who was a frequent Alfred Hitchcock collaborator.

He created some of the most iconic images in film, such as the posters for Vertigo and Anatomy of a Murder. The new poster adds to the trailer atmosphere of this being the cinematic cousins of the best light hearted efforts of both Hitchcock and Wilder.

As if your going to forget but the plot goes something like this. John Malkovich is a former CIA agent whose soon to be divorced wife Tilda Swinton steals a CD of his memoirs revealing some top secret… secrets. Bradd Pitt and Frances McDormand are two Gym Employee’s who attempt to steal the CD which lead the C.I.A. to send George Clooney to clean up the mess.

You can see the brilliant red band trailer HERE.

The comedy side of the Coen Brothers career has always been less interesting to me then their more serious yarns like Miller's Crossing and No Country For Old Men but I frikkin' love this trailer.

How exciting, how confident in their storytelling are these guys right now?

We've seen Tilda Swinton, George Clooney, Frances McDormand, Richard Jenkins and John Malkovich in hundreds of movies but as soon as you put them in a Coen Brothers environment, those guys have that Tarantino knack for making them become larger than life characters with a few extended shots and memorable actions.

The only thing I didn't particularly like is a goofy Brad Pitt - this alongside his macho man action star persona in Troy, are two over-acting sides of his career that make you think he is a bad actor, when he really isn't.

SEE IT IN HD HERE, BUT SADLY YOU MUST HAVE ITUNES TO PLAY IT.
Focus Features are releasing this one on September 12th (October 17th in the U.K.) and I will gladly eat my words come then if this isn't one of the best films of the year but from the looks of things, the Coens have hit it big again.
To do something as ...

We are only around six months away from seeing the hotly anticipated new film from the Coen Brothers, yes that's right those two cinematic geniuses who gave us the incredibly intense No Country for Old Men at the back end of last year.

The movie is Burn After Reading - a dark comedy which reunites them with George Clooney who himself is reunited with both Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton) and Brad Pitt (Ocean's Movies). John Malkovich and Frances McDormand co-star in the tale of C.I.A. conspiracy and revenge.

The plot goes something like this. Malkovich is a former CIA agent whose soon to be divorced wife Tilda Swinton steals a CD of his memoirs revealing some top secret... secrets. Pitt and McDormand are two Gym Employee's who attempt to steal the CD which lead the C.I.A. to send George Clooney to clean up the mess - and if these pics are anything to go by he sleeps with Swinton for good measure!
Fun is the order of the day for the Coens on this one - a genre which I've never find them all that interesting in actually. Love the cast though and after No Country For Old Men - I can see ...

Not long to go until the next Coens masterpiece opens in a theatre near you (as long as you live in the States). Is it too soon and overly optimistic to call Burn After Reading a masterpiece some six months before it opens and before any trailers or real press for the film have begun?

I say with the Coens track record and the cast. No frikkin' way. My expectations are through the roof...

Focus Features and Working Title have decided to go wide when opening the Coen brother's next film "Burn After Reading" on Sept. 12 because of the film's comedic appeal and cast.

Dark spy-comedy stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton, who recently starred with Clooney in "Michael Clayton."
The movie which is being directed and produced from a original script the Coens wrote revolves around an ousted CIA official whose memoir inadvertently falls into the hands of two bumbling Washington, D.C. gym employees.

If the Coens filmography fall into the two categories of quirky comedy (Intolerable Cruely, The Ladykillers, O, Brother Where Art Thou?) and dark and sombre serious (Fargo, No Country For Old Men, Miller's Crossing) their next movie definitely falls upon the first category ...
