The other night I went to a new bar in my home town- the concept behind it (I hate the fact that bars now require concepts) was a 1980s Berlin crackden. I kid you not. So we went, and it turned out to be exactly that- apart from the strewn, drug-addled usual suspects and actual drug paraphenalia I found myself drinking in a shit-hole that seemed to be celebrating the fact that it was clever enough to forget all design necessities. I got exactly what I expected, but I couldn't help but miss the point and feel completely let down.

With Zombieland, I was expecting the reverse- my expectations of the film itself missed my hopes for it by a Berlin mile and I was ready to accept a near-miss zom-com that just didnt leave me feeling any particular connection. As a reviewer I see an inordinate amount of poorly made horror films, with zombie flicks rating a definite first in the shit stakes, and it seems harder to make a good back-from-the-dead yarn than a bad one, and far less appealing (I blame it on the so-bad-its-good mind-set that trends in those circles), and I felt a familiar niggling sense of doubt ...

I think it's fair to say that we're sick and tired of the depressing Bill Murray (Lost In Translation, Broken Flowers, the upcoming The Limits of Control) we want our fun, silly Bill Murray back, the one we grew up watching. That's why it's great to know that he's on board for Ghostbusters 3 but this info is not about that, however.. it's just as fun because I am a twisted fan of zombie movies.

According to Shock Till You Drop the upcoming Zombieland, the post apocalyptic story about a band of survivors who team to fight the living dead after a zombie plague ravages America will have a special cameo by Bill Murray.

He joins the intriguing cast that includes Woody Harrelson, Abigail Breslin, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and Amber Heard.

It's said that he'll show up briefly in full undead make up so if he somehow becomes the king of zombies, then I can die happy.. and then walk the earth again and feed on brains.

Previously, we were treated to a brief glimpse at some set photo's...

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Zombieland opens October 9th, 2009.

Ok, so I'm aware this trailer has been online a few days but I'm just now getting around to chugging through the insane mountain of e-mails I've amassed and for the most part, blatantly ignored over the last few days.

I think you will forgive me considering there was quite a big movie released this weekend, with characters that have existed in my conscious for the best part of my reading life.

Anyway, after ignoring most of the dredge of e-mails I've been sent, I came across this gem of a trailer for THE LIMITS OF CONTROL, the new movie from Jim Jarmusch.

It's his first since the extremely pretentious and possibly the most pointless film of 2006, the odd BROKEN FLOWERS and thankfully, although very much feeling like a Jarmusch picture, this one surely moves into a different kind of genre completely.

The movie stars 24 actor Isaach De Bankolé in one of those lead roles, a bit like the BOURNE movies, where it's one iconic attire in various exotic locations, this one in contemporary Spain. Bankole plays a "mysterious loner, a stranger in the process of completing a criminal job." and holds a great screen presence in just a few minutes of film.

My girlfriend often says I'm the luckiest guy in the world, especially in the last few years where seemingly every geek property I ever fell in love with is making a return in one form or another.

Not only are we getting a new GHOSTBUSTERS movie with the original crew sounding like they are all might just be up for a return but we are also getting a cool as hell looking video game featuring the voices of Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Ackroyd and Ernie Hudson.

It's too bad they give a few lifeless line readings but hell, I would take this over using someone's elses voice or likeness. Can't wait to get hold of this...

The game is coming in June. Hopefully by then dare I say casting might be complete for GHOSTBUSTERS 3.

Sigourney Weaver claims she will be meeting with Bill Murray next week to discuss GHOSTBUSTERS 3, probably a chat to advise each other on whether they should be involved in the proposed movie or not.

At this point, only Harold Ramis from the original crew is officially on board (and only behind-the-scenes at that) as they are all waiting on the quality of the script The Office scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky turn in before committing themselves.

But what of the return of another character from the original series? Someone I had previously not yet thought of. And no I don't mean the return of Louis Tully as played by Rick Moranis, no, no, no. From Sigourney herself to MTV (via /film)...
“I would hope that my little Oscar would be one of the Ghostbusters even if I’m not in it!”
Of course. Sigourney's bastard son.

That kind of possible continuity is something that Hollywood can't help themselves by putting in place. I can imagine them going with the father/son storyline if indeed Weaver's character got married to Murray's Peter Venkman who now acts as Oscar's step father?

It's been two decades since the last movie, Oscar will be a grown up man now. Perfect ...

Speaking for the second time about the potential GHOSTBUSTERS 3 on Oct 3rd, Bill Murray told reporters at a New York Press Conference that the movie "could happen" but more interestingly he also reveals why it hasn't happened in the near two decades since the last film.

It's all because he was "disappointed" with how GHOSTBUSTERS 2 was developed and how the final cut ended up on screen.

"We did a sequel, and it was sort of rather unsatisfying for me, because the first one to me was the goods," Murray said. "It was the real thing. And the sequel, you know, was ... it was a few years later. There was an idea pitched. And it was like, well, they got us all together in a room. We just laughed for a couple of hours. And then they said, 'What if we did another one? Here's an idea.'"

"So they had this idea, but it didn't turn out to be the idea when I arrived on the set. They'd written a whole different movie than the one [initially discussed]. And the special-effects guys got it and got their hands on it. And it was just not the same movie. There were a ...

Bill Murray, for possibly the first time ever, has stated that he would be interested in the newly announced GHOSTBUSTERS III movie that Columbia have recently put into development, commenting that "the wounds from GHOSTBUSTERS 2 are healed".

In the past, Murray has only ever shown a vague interest in returning to the franchise on film and at one point he would only appear in the movie if he could be a Ghost at the end! Which admittedly, is an extremely funny idea.

Murray spoke at Fantastic Fest where they were screening his upcoming fantasy film CITY OF EMBER, where he said he knew that THE OFFICE writers were taking a stab at a third film under the guidance of Judd Apatow and that his recent stint during the Summer voicing his character of Peter Venkman for the video game adaptation has given him some GHOSTBUSTERS nostalgia.

He has been signing the famous theme song whilst working down the street, apparentaly.

You can see the video from his appearance here, where the GHOSTBUSTERS talk comes at the end. Very interesting...

Great news, right? As far as I'm concerned, no GHOSTBUSTERS III reunion type movie should happen without Murray. Great to see him talking enthusiastically about ...

Harold Ramis has confirmed to Chicago Tribune's Pop Machine that Judd Apatow is officially on board as co-producer of the newly announced Ghostbusters III which will be scribed by NBC's The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky.

Ramis who played the scientist Egon in the two films to date, also confirms the movie is being made with the intention of having the original four cast members as "mentors" to a newer generation which will now almost certainly involve Seth Rogen (because of Apatow's involvement) and probably Paul Rudd. I think those two more than any other are shoe-ins here.

He says, also talking about Bill Murray and the rest of the gang's return...
"yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my [Year One] writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing [Year One] and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, ...

So it's official, Ghostbusters III is about to be scripted.

It's happening, just like I kept telling you guys it would.

Columbia Pictures have hired Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the co-executive producers on NBC's version of The Office to write an original script for the film that will have the intention of reuniting Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson for the first time since 1989's Ghostbusters II.

As well as writing the excellent U.S. version of The Office, the writing duo have also just wrote Year One, the biblical comedy which Harold Ramis himself recently helmed for Judd Apatow.

You can read the story in Variety!

Just this week Ackroyd had mentioned his desire to get Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen and their gang involved in the picture in someway, something many fanboys have anticipated happening for about a year now. Could this new movie act as a farewell to the original cast and as a set-up to carrying on the franchise with Apatow's gang, which could well involve Rogen, Paul Rudd and presumably Steve Carrel, who of course just so happens to be the star of The Office.

Will Ivan Reitman, the helmer of Parts I and II and who last directed ...

Dan Ackroyd, usually the figurehead voice for the Ghost Busters team loves the much talked about rumblings of what a Judd Apatow directed Ghost Busters 3 would look like with Seth Rogen and his usual crew (presumably Rudd, Carell etc) starring.

And who knows, if Ackroyd is talking about it (and he would know, mentioning a script being written right now) maybe it's more than just rumblings...
Well, y’know, two sharp young writers are purported to be writing the sequel, the third movie now. If I could interest Seth [Rogen] and Judd [Apatow] to be part of it, that would be an absolute dream.
I've said it time and time again. Ghost Busters is a staple of mine and many of my generation's childhood, two (ok for some just one) precious films that we don't particularly want to see revisited. HOWEVER, revisited they will most certainly be, just like Back to the Future will be sooner rather than later.

The question is as to whether it will be a Stallone/Willis/Ford style return for the original cast or whether it will be new blood... or somewhere in the middle where it's a passing of the torch movie is where the big mystery lies.

Now, because Ghost ...

So there's a totally unfounded rumor online at Dread Central that Judd Apatow has not only convinced Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Ackroyd and Ernie Hudson to return for a third Ghost Busters movie some twenty years after the last picture but also that they would use the film to pass the torch to Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen and Romany Malco.

All four actors made up the core cast of The 40 Year Old Virgin and have since starred in many various Apatow projects.

But as with every Ghost Busters rumor of the last ten years, Bill Murray seems in no mood to do another of these pictures no matter how much money they throw at him.

Why would things be so different now?

Though I would say this. If Apatow could ever convince Ackroyd, Ramis & Murray to give up the rights to the series (and if anyone could, it would be Apatow) then I'm convinced he could make a great movie with his usual crew AS LONG as he didn't got the remake route.

For example, I would rather see Rogen as a new character, rather than trying to be Bill Murray.

And this kind of rumor story isn't particularly new. A ...

Yeah, I liked this quite a bit - though I was temporarily distracted from the very first sound of the trailer which (and don't doubt it - I could be 100% spot on here because I played the game about 5 million times), sounds exactly like the sound made when a door opens on the N64 game Perfect Dark.

Anyway, moving on... I dug this trailer quite a bit.

The set designs look good, the movie for some reason has a German esque look about it. Maybe it's just Metropolis invading my brain but this certainly doesn't feel like a Hollywood movie despite the presence of Tim Robbins and Bill Murray.

I'm anxious too for seeing the Academy Award nominated Saoirse Ronan follow-up her brilliant turn in Atonement with a leading part.

Has a Guillermo del Toro feel about it, wouldn't ya say? Love the end tease too.

Look for this one on October 10th (no U.K. release date as yet) from talented 31 year old director Gil Kenan, whose visual animated fest Monster House was a surprisingly entertaining movie back in 06. This is his second movie to date and his first live-action feature. Sure looks to me ...

This article was written by James Francis Reihing as part of a trial, and it has been edited by Matt Holmes.

Today brings us our first look at the teaser poster for the Tom Hanks-produced City of Ember, a fantasy film based upon the book of the same name by Jeanne Duprau.

The film is being directed by Gil Kenan of Monster House fame and was filmed completely in Northern Ireland with the pretty diverse cast of Bill Murray, Tim Robbins, Saorise Ronan, Toby Jones and Martin Landau.

The below poster seems to show the logo that they will be using for the film and not a whole lot more, which may not exactly explain the idea of the film to the audience. It almost looks...dare I say...reminiscent of the Speed Racer logo.

For generations, the people of the City of Ember have flourished in an amazing world of glittering lights. But Ember's once powerful generator is failing ... and the great lamps that illuminate the city are starting to flicker. Now, two teenagers in a race against time, must search Ember for clues that will unlock the ancient mystery of the city's existence, and help the citizens escape before the lights ...

Review by Michael Edwards

[rating: 3.5]

Wes Anderson is back, and he brings with him the usual rag-tag of dysfunctional relations played by his favoured actors, in the usual kooky colour schemes and with familiar visual stylings. This time three brothers (Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman - who actually co-wrote the film, and Adrien Brody) who haven't spoken since the funeral of their father meet up on a train, the eponymous Darjeeling Limited, and travel on a journey across India and through their various psychological issues.

If repetition and recurrence seemed a theme in my opening paragraph, it's because this is Wes Anderson's third film that uses more or less the same cast, style, themes and plot. The journey may have been transposed from a cityscape or a boat to a train, but the tale essentially retains the same focus on overcoming the past and, in particular, the legacy left behind by family issues. The Freudian angle to The Darjeeling Limited extends as far as to have Adrien ...

Dan Aykroyd was on CISN Country radio station yesterday and he revealed that a new Ghostbusters movie is going ahead. A third movie has been talked about for around 15 years, with the problem as far as I understand it always being that Bill Murray wasn't prepared to give away the rights to the franchise.

It looks like those issues have been resolved.

More info from Coming Soon...

Aykroyd said that the film will be CGI and Bill Murray has agreed to do the voice of Dr. Peter Venkman. No word on whether Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson or any other of the original actors will return to voice their characters.

CGI!

Well I can't say I'm all that excited for a Ghostbusters CGI movie, just like I wasn't for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles CGI movie.

I wouldn't have minded seeing a Ghostbusters movie with the characters the age they are now. I think it could have been a fit nostalgia ride and the franchise isn't like Indiana Jones. These characters were never in shape anyway, the humour came from their great comedic timing.

So it's another franchise from the 80's that we all grew up with getting the sequel treatment. Only Back to the Future franchise ...
