Empire have a couple of brand new and exclusive images from next May's Disney tentpole, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time as part of their Sherlock Holmes' front covered September issue.

The above image features star Jake Gyllenhaal (as Prince of Persia) and Gemma Arterton (as Princess Tamina) getting wet in what seems to be some kind of chase sequence.

Last week, Coming Soon got the heads-up on the first image of Ben Kingsley as the villain Nizam, a nobleman out to possess the Sands of Time, a gift from the Gods that reverses time.

Maybe Kingsley wants it so he can banish memories of playing the Thunderbirds villain?

My time on the internet has been so small lately that it's taken me the best part of a week to talk about the trailer for Shutter Island, the knock your balls off creepy B-movie esque trailer for Martin Scoresese's latest movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, which looks absurdly brilliant. I can't tell you how much I'm loving this feeling that is coming back to directors right now, the bug that caught Sam Raimi recently with his nostalgic and over the top fun Drag Me To Hell has hit Scorsese big time.

This looks to be his most "out there" movie since Cape Fear.

And Robert Richardson, a name most people won't know but whose cinematography you will have appreciated in Kill Bill, Casino and Scorsese's own The Aviator and Bringing Out the Dead... looks to be on another level right here. How gorgeous does this movie look?

Like De Niro in years past, when DiCaprio teams up with Marty he is like a different actor and he looks great here. My favourite line of the trailer is when he is on the ship out there, doing the "for the criminally insane" line, which reminds me so much of what Peter Jackson did with ...

The political situation of Ireland has proved fertile ground for an array of superb films that have engraved themselves on popular consciousness for depicting without mercy the pain, the hardship, the ideological commitment and the personal struggles involved in battle between the IRA, the Ulster Volunteer Force, and the British Army; not to mention the general populace and the more reasonable political proponents of both loyalism and separatism.

Strangely though, Fifty Dead Men Walking chooses not to follow in the traditions of its worthy filmic predecessors and instead goes the route of the recent terrorist dramas set in Iraq.

Inspired by the true story of Martin McGartland, the film follows Martin (Jim Sturgess), a young lad from west Belfast in the late 1980s. A Catholic boy from an IRA controlled area, he doesn't have access to most jobs because a majority of businesses are controlled by the Protestants and makes a living selling stolen goods. However one day he comes in close contact with some IRA bigwigs, and no sooner have they talked of involving him in their operations than he is recruited by the British Police as a mole.

Working up the ranks as an IRA volunteer, he continues to feed information to his British ...

I actually think Sam Raimi is a little further along in pre-production on SPIDER-MAN 4 than he lets on to IGN this weekend and I translate the "earliest stages" comment referring more to finalising the script elements they already have in place rather than just beginning work on writing a new movie.

They have a release date now, May 6th 2011... things are starting to get serious now for Spidey's fourth installment.

Raimi claims he is closing in on villain/villains, one of whom thanks to Nikki Finke we already know was offered to actor Mickey Rourke, who had to turn it down due to his commitment on IRON MAN 2. As we know Raimi has mentioned before he has wanted to include Morbius The Living Vampire in the franchise to add a supernatural element, so it's not too hard of a stretch to think Rourke's was offered that role, as the physical resemblance is strong.

Now it will be interesting to see if it was a case of that's the only actor Raimi wanted for that part and without him they have no character, or whether it will be offered elsewhere.

We should also take into consideration the progression of Dr. Curt Connors as played by ...

Release Date: 02/03/09

TRANSSIBERIAN, a mongrelised version of an oft-used format, is obsessed with the idea of people being something counter to what they appear; the age-old concept of the cover not necessarily indicating the book’s content. As much as it is a good old fashioned high-wire suspense flick, TRANSSIBERIAN is also a tale of skewed humanity; about the way in which people furiously try to preserve assumed personas no matter what the cost.

Although it’s been done before to great success with STRANGER ON A TRAIN and MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS (and with less on UNDER SIEGE 2), it says a lot about the bravery of TRANSSIBERIAN’s writers that they chose to revive the old choo-choo suspense. After all, the setting somewhat restricts the way the plot can develop: it’s not only the characters stuck on the train, but the director as well, and more importantly the audience. So, necessarily the film concentrates on lavishly furnishing the characters for the first act, developing them enough to become familiar, but (typically for Brad Anderson) leaving enough hints towards ominous dirty underbellies so as to remain intriguing.

The most impressive of all the players on TRANSSIBERIAN is the bleak Siberian landscape itself: its ...

UPDATED: Latino Review have the scoop that Danny Trejo (ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO, MACHETE) has a role in the movie. For a "home coming of tough guys", how can you go wrong with a guy whose face carries the same hard man world weariness as Charles Bronson?

I have a feeling Sly Stallone got on his knees and begged Arnold Schwarzenegger, his much compared action hero peer of the 80's and 90's, to star in THE EXPENDABLES.

But in the end, he could only get Arnie for one day of shooting. Which is still mega cool.

AICN have heard that Arnie will play Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie, a small cameo that revolves around a confrontation between Stallone's fictional character Barney Ross and Arnie playing himself. Somehow, don't ask me the details, but in this move universe it seems both have a history dating back to when Arnie was shooting CONAN THE BARBARIAN.

It's a meta-film connection I guess, can't wait to see it. And it isn't actually the first time they have appeared together as Arnie recently filmed a small role in the Indian movie INCREDIBLE LOVE which Stallone has a considerable part in. That movie premieres in India in ...

OWF writer Simon Gallagher insists that when I mention Sir. Ben Kingsley's name, it must have his title attached at the beginning. Which is fine by me, if any thesp has deserved such a title it is he and his work in ELEGY this year and from what I hear his performance in THE WACKNESS are prime examples of how he is still one of the greatest working actors in Hollywood today.

And he's not afraid to do populist movies either. He's already shot his villain part in the massive Disney blockbuster PRINCE OF PERSIA and now comes word that Sylvester Stallone expects to get Kingsley involved in THE EXPENDABLES, his "home coming of tough guys" war picture. You can see Stallone make the announcement at Extra TV.

Stallone also confirmed the casting of Forest Whitaker which was also confirmed by the trades, though it would appear Sandra Bullock won't be in the film. A spokeswoman for Nu Image/Millenium Films said it was “merely wishful thinking for fans.”

Moviehole expect Kingsley to play the character of Church...
Church is the man that hires the ‘Expendables’ (run by ‘Barney’ and ‘Christmas’, assumingly the characters played by Stallone and Statham, respectively) to go after General Garza ...

Sony Pictures and Lakeshore Entertainment seem disinterested in running "For Your Consideration" ads for ELEGY, which is a huge shame because Ben Kingsley and Penelope Cruz gave some of the best performances of their career in that movie, really strong efforts which shouldn't be overlooked.

ELEGY is probably in my top three movies of the year, I really adored this movie. I wish it was getting more buzz...

Dennis Hopper too may be in with a shout at Best Supporting Actor. You can read my original review of the movie HERE.

I've just finished watching the excellent Blu-Ray transfer of THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD and there's a sorcerer in that movie by the name of Sokurah who looks exactly like Ben Kingsley does here.

This set pic is from PRINCE OF PERSIA, a SINBAD-esque movie adapted from the very popular and long standing video game where Kingsley plays the villian Nizam.

Previous set pics are still online of the movie's lead Jake Gyllenhaal.

The plot of the movie follows Kingsley killing his brother, the King of Persia and putting the blame on the King's son Dastan (Gyllenhaal). Nizam seeks the Sands of Time, which is so powerful it will allow him to take over the world.

The movie opens May 28th 2010 and co-stars Gemma Arterton and Alfred Molina for direct Mike Newell.

Walt Disney Pictures have pushed back the previously big June 2009 tentpole release Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to May 2010, where it will now enjoy one of the most lucrative spots of the summer - the memorial day weekend.

The reason for the move isn't fully explained in their press release but it's probably a combination of one of the biggest tentpole positions of the year being open to them if they sat on the film for a while and also the short amount of time between now and the June 13th date to get this project wrapped and in the can.

No disruption is expected to the shooting of the film, which see's Jake Gyllenhaal as the young prince in sixth century Persia who along with an exotic princess (Bond girl Gemma Arterton) must prevent a villainous nobleman (Ben Kingsley) from poessessing the Sands of Time.

The Sands of Time is a gift from the Gods that has the power to reverse time and allow it's possessor to rule the world!

Alfred Molina co-stars as a mentor to the Prince, for Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire director Mike Newell.

Ben Kingsley is a great leading actor and I'm so happy to see him topline the upcoming drama Elegy, based on Phillip Roth's novel The Dying Animal. Kingsley is so much more than the guy who cameo's in The Love Guru or even the upcoming Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

Here he plays a 60+ teacher who late in life finds a real connection with a beautiful women who just happens to be a young student (Cruz) he teaches.

Could it be love?

Dennis Hopper (as his advising friend), Patricia Clarkson (as the woman he has been seeing closer to his age) and Peter Sarsgaard co-star.

It's nothing we haven't seen from Cruz before where she is the object of a man falling deeply in love with her free spirit but it's Kingsley who makes this guy a real character that we can get invested in and not some old pervert.

See it in quality HD HERE
The film gets a theatrical run from August 8th in both the U.K. and U.S. Isabel Coixet (My Life Without Me) directed it.

Two British veterans Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley have joined the cast of the Disney adaptation of the Ubisoft video game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time says Variety.

Molina will play Sheik Amar, who becomes a mentor to the prince but it's not known what Kingsley's role in the movie is. Maybe he is some kind of villain?

The duo have been in a movie together, 13 years ago in Species. They are the two to the furthest right of the image below...

Jake Gyllenhaal leads the movie as the Prince of Persia which like I said when it was announced was just horrible studio casting. Upcoming Bond lassie Gemma Arteton plays the love interest.

Jerry Bruckheimer (who else) produces the first of what is hoped will become a big franchise for Disney, with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix director Mike Newell in charge behind the camera. Look for this one next Summer.

Ben Kingsley, Patricia Clarkson and Michelle Williams (in her first role since the death of Heath Ledger) round out the rest of the cast, all of which have been signed on for some weeks now.

The movie kinda sounds like it will end up being a mix between The Wicker Man and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest but that is completely coming from someone who has never read the novel. The author of the book for Shutter ...

The next movie from Martin Scorsese has for an undisclosed reason suffered (that being the operative word here) a name change from the original SHUTTER ISLAND (which is the name of the 2003 Denis Lehane book it is based upon) to ASHECLIFFE. It's unknown at this time why Paramount went ahead and changed the name but we do know where it originates.

The movie should film in March and will be ...
