Fear, loss and obsession. Those are the themes that has driven the cinema of British filmmaker Christopher Nolan into one of the most gifted storytellers the movie industry has right now.

Whether he is exploring a guy whose struggle to overcome the loss of his wife, literally takes over his life (Memento), a guy whose lust for a women some years his junior leads him to murder (Insomnia), a guy's obsession with bettering his enemy no matter how deadly the consequences which again takes over his life (The Prestige) or a guy who dresses up in a Bat suit swearing vengeance against a whole city of criminals responsible for his parents death, thus again taking over his life - the theme is so universal and strikingly powerful that Nolan has tapped into something that he can't himself shake off.

I've yet to lose a parent, though my mother and father did separate when I was around 7 - a quite awful time for your life to change so dramatically. The anger, the hatred, the confusion which never goes away, no matter how much older you get... it's no wonder I looked to the Batman character for guidance when ...

You know a movie is connecting with people when all anybody outside of the online sphere wants to talk to you about is The Dark Knight. It happens to me now and again, especially at the time of a big released movie... Indiana Jones was the same.

But this one is off the charts. Anticipation in the U.K. could not be higher for the Batman Begins sequel. I quite frankly don't think any single person in the country who does not see the film on it's several weeks of release can have any worthy excuse.

If not this movie, which will actually get you off your ass and into the theatre?

To celebrate the release of The Dark Knight, we have one awesome competition for you. We are giving away FIVE of these beauties as first prize, usually priced at £15.98 at Amazon...

If you have seen the HD-DVD transfer of Batman Begins, you will know just how insane this movie is at 1080p, it's incredible. It's titles like this which you buy into the HD format for.
I've spent this glorious Saturday morning watching my review copy as soon as it came through the post, I literally hit the postman with my Batarang and ...

I meant to write about this the other day but for whatever reason I never got round to it.

Back in 2002-2003, Christopher Nolan and his crew held several massive auditions for Batman Begins, a Warner Bros. blockbuster event movie that was one of the most sought out pictures for both young and veteran actors who saw it potentially as being successful for them as movies like Spider-Man, Lord of the Rings and X-Men had been for their respective casts.

The last seven days has seen both Joshua Jackson and Chris Cooper reveal they had auditioned (in Joshua's case) or turned down (in Chris' case) the roles of Batman and Commissioner Gordan respectively something that any self respecting Batman fan who kept up with the pre-production of Begins five years ago will know about already.

Joshua Jackson on loosing out on the role of Batman, from MTV...
“I went and did the screen test,” “Shutter” star Joshua Jackson revealed to MTV News. “I was one the last four or five guys [up for the role of Batman.]”

“I don’t like to lose any job, but they cast the right guy,” he said. “I mean, Christian Bale was excellent. I don’t really think of myself in ...
