Prisoners is that cute girl at school. Everyone wants to flirt with her and some will become attached for a while - have some fun with her, mess around outside the bike shed at lunch time but when it comes down to long term commitment - well, the boys get scared and run a mile.

Over the weekend, Leonardo DiCaprio became the latest actor to flirt with Alcon Entertainment's struggling adaptation of Aaron Guzikowski's written kidnap thriller Prisoners, according to the folks at Deadline.

DiCaprio is attached to play the small-town bible bashing carpenter who takes matters into his own hands when his daughter and her friend are kidnapped in a movie that is said to have echoes to Liam Neeson's Taken. The other lead role is that of a cop trying to solve the case.

Originally the project was setup with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale to star but both those guys left to make The Fighter instead and towards the end of '09 the producers briefly turned to Hugh Jackman but that deal was dependent on filming this month and it would appear that didn't work out, so that's that.

Prisoners is also now without director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Shooter) who ...

During the spring, Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and director Bryan Singer came within a whisker away of making the hotly tiped Aaron Guzikowski script Prisoners; a dark, gritty, kidnap thriller in the vein of Taken into a feature, only for Bale to instead take a liking to the script for The Fighter, another project Wahlberg had championed and needed a co-star for, and they made that instead.

Wahlberg was still happy because he finally had a man to make his three year passion project with but at the same time, he just wouldn't let Prisoners die. He is a big believer in Guzikowski's script and he always knew he could get a big name to act opposite him.

According to the locals in Derby, Connecticut... the town the movie will shoot in next February, that man will be Hugh Jackman.

By my calculations, Jackman's free until he shoots Real Steel for Shawn Levy in June, so I think this could be solid info.

When Singer left, Wahlberg quickly sought out his Shooter director Antoine Fuqua to helm, and it's with his direction this project will finally be realised.

Here's the plot we were given earlier this year...
After his 6-year-old daughter and her friend are kidnapped, ...

Now this is either weird as shit crazy, the smartest actor coup ever pulled off between duelling projects or someone, somewhere, has got their wires terribly crossed.

CHUD are reporting that Edgar Ramirez will be Javier Bardem's replacement as the infamous Columbian drug cartel leader Pablo Escobar in Joe Carnahan's long time in development next movie Killing Pablo.

Which all things considered after his great turns in The Bourne Ultimatum, Domino and his big upcoming roles in the two Soderbergh biopics of Che Guevara, hardly seems a bad choice at all. The thing is Oliver Stone had already thought the same thing and had cast Ramirez for his version which Antoine Fuqua is directing!

So this is one story that you would instantly through out of the window as being NOT TRUE... someone clearly getting their wires mixed up somewhere but then you hear who CHUD's source was.

Joe Carnahan himself! He says...
"I spent the last week in Colombia with Edgar Ramirez talking 'Pablo' and he has every intention of portraying Escobar and I couldn't be more fired up by the prospect. He's coming at it with boundless enthusiasm, conviction to the role and and the understanding that he's going to have to pack ...
