Another switch-a-roo but this one would indicate that The Tourist, now surely an A-list project, won't have any problems finding a male and female audience come the time of it's release in 2011. In a way it's going to become the ultimate date movie. No guy is going to complain about seeing an Angelina Jolie action vehicle with his woman, and every girl of a certain age will flock to see Johnny Depp in a sexy thriller.

Put them together and your box office will explode. It's set to the be the biggest on screen male/female pairing since Jolie and Brad Pitt's Mr. and Mrs. Smith earned nearly $500 million worldwide in 2005.

Production is set to begin in February... extra security will be needed on sets to keep the hordes away, I'd say.
The biggest female star on the planet to
team with Hollywood's most popular actor
amongst the female demographic.
The Tourist is the Hollywood remake of the 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer and to say it's had a troubling year of pre-production would be kind, really. Angelina Jolie recently replaced Charlize Theron as the female interpol agent who uses an American tourist (now Depp), so that she can get rid of an ...

Ah, the nostalgia for University life. Mid-afternoons watching 70's tele-drama Quincy M.E., whose every patient (are they actually patients, when they are dead?) turned out to be murder, an unsolved case for Jack Klugman to crack. How often this happens in real life I couldn't say but Quincy (148 episodes) the medical examiner solved twice as many cases as Columbo (69 episodes).

Seriously though, I could never understand the point in making a crime show, that wasn't revolved around a detective. The basic premise of the show was somebody dies by apparantely natural causes, Quincy notices a minute detail and suspects foul play. Quincy suddenly becomes a detective and tries to solve the murder but finds himself blocked by authority (usually his boss or the local cops), he ignores them and gets angry, then solves the case.

It was a detective show in every way.

So today I hear Angelina Jolie is adding another franchise to her blockbuster heavy bedpost as Fox 2000 are setting her up to play medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta, who has somehow filled 16 popular crime novels from Patricia Cornwell.

The idea is not to adapt each book but to adapt the character and situations from the franchise, which ...

Here's three very different images from Phillip Noyce's (CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER, THE BONE COLLECTOR) upcoming thriller SALT, starring Angelina Jolie... which severely needs a name change, I'd say. Who thinks a summer action vehicle called SALT can surpass $100 million?

Anyway, you may remember this project was previously setup as a Tom Cruise starring vehicle for HANCOCK director Peter Berg but once Jolie became available, Columbia dropped Cruise and lodged Jolie in.

And two further photo's of the character wearing wigs which hints at an ALIAS esque picture...

The film tells the story of a CIA officer who is outed as a Russian sleeper spy, and must evade capture by those who are convinced she’s aiming to assassinate the president.

Liev Schreiber plays Winter, her ally in the Russian C.I.A. office and CHILDREN OF MEN'S Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Peabody, who I guess is the villain as a counterintelligence officer who tries to take her down.

SALT is currently shooting in New York and Washington and should be out next Summer.

In the late 90's when the video game truly began to take off, Brit actress and model Rhona Mitra was the first official LARA CROFT.

Because of her strikingly similar looks, she was hired by Eidos Interactive and paraded around video game and publicity events in the tight fitting costume, showing off all her curves and her pout as the female answer to INDIANA JONES.

Mitra who was in her early 20's at the time, even got her breasts enhanced for the part and took classes in gaining confidence so during interviews she would have the presence that Lara showed off in the video games.

When Paramount Pictures went ahead with a big money live adaptation of the character, Mitra was deemed to be an unknown and with a lightweight CV was never seriously considered to lead such a huge project. They instead went for the much more experienced Angelina Jolie, who with the help of the series became a bonafide movie star.

Since Mitra was fired by Eidos as the "official Lara Croft model", she has upped her acting game and most recently become a leading action lady in last year's movies DOOMSDAY and UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS.

She now has a much ...

Frank Miller is in the U.K. promoting THE SPIRIT and during the same junket OWF attended (which we can't talk about yet), IGN Movies got out of Miller that he is hoping SIN CITY 2 will film in April.

He tells the site the script is written and if all the pieces come together he will be filming the movie in a similar circumstance as the original, with the help of his pal and filmmaking mentor Robert Rodriguez.

In September, Miller voiced similar sentiments about a return to SIN CITY.

Back in December 2006, Miller cast Angelina Jolie for one of the main roles in A DAME TO KILL FOR, the major unused story from Miller's original graphic novels which is seen as a shoe-in for the sequel. When she got pregnant and other pieces never came together for the movie, it was delayed.

Hopefully Miller will give her a call again. Could you imagine anyone else being better suited to the title?

Previously, SIN CITY 2 and 3 were to shoot back-to-back. Hopefully once THE SPIRIT is out of the way we can here more about exactly what's going down.

Not that most men would usually be picky when it comes to choosing between Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron but when you once played 007, I guess you get that opportunity. Pierce Brosnan has gone on record this week firmly letting us know which beauty he would prefer to act alongside if THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR sequel ever gets off the ground.

His heart is firmly with the blondes...

"Charlize Theron is someone who I've always admired. I think she's someone who has acquitted herself grandly. Nothing against Angelina Jolie. I think she's a magnificent actress. But Charlize has a poise about her and has an inner strength and femininity which I really like to watch."
Jolie was first rumored for the movie last year and we thought the movie was near development when Paul Verhoeven (BASIC INSTINCT, TOTAL RECALL) joined the project but still it stalls.

Two trailers premiered today for two flicks that I dare say were only on the middle blip of our radar. That is to say, they weren't ones we were counting down to see because of their subject matter but they are made by interesting enough talent that he might just dip into them come release time.

First up it's German director Tom Tyker's (RUN LOLA RUN, PERFUME: STORY OF A MURDERER) latest film THE INTERNATIONAL which stars Clive Owen and Naomi Watts. They plan an Interpol Agent (Owen) and a Manhatten D.A (Watts) who are thrust into bringing down one of the world's most powerful banks after they learn of a corruption plot used to finance terrorism and war.

And the second trailer is for Clint Eastwood's 1920's period drama CHANGELING, which was well reviewed at Cannes and stars Angelina Jolie whose stolen nine year old son has been returned to her five months after the disppearance, only to find it's not her actual son. John Malkovich and Amy Ryan co-star.
The movie looks typically moody from Eastwood, that infamous black and drab colour scheme of his present from the first frame. And so harshly robbed of an Oscar nom last year for ...

Soon after Tom Cruise ended his interested in starring in the C.I.A. espionage thriller Edwin A. Salt, a number of high profile Hollywood actors were said to be interested in what is described as an A+++ script from writer Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, The Recruit).

I remember the name of Will Smith quite strongly.

But once Angelina Jolie got her hands on the script and loved it, Columbia Pictures couldn't help but think of a sexier adaptation, a one led by a rare and credible female action star who helped Wanted earn $128 million domestic. Wimmer is currently re-drafting his script, to accommodate Jolie as a female lead.

Phillip Noyce who worked with Jolie on the 1999 crime thriller The Bone Collector but is more famous for directing the first two Jack Ryan pics with Harrison Ford, is still attached as director.

The movie revolves around a CIA officer who's accused by of being a Russian sleeper spy, and is on the run, attempting to prove her innocence.

Obviously a new title is in need, the project is no longer about a guy named Edwin A. Salt. It's expected this movie will mark Jolie's return to film after giving birth to twins

If we were living in Russia, the upcoming adaptation of Mark Millar's comic book Wanted starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman would be as hotly anticipated by geeks just as much as some of the other big films of the summer.

Sadly we don't and it isn't. We are stuck with some uber lame trailers, whilst all the good stuff from the movie goes into foreign trailers that the MPAA would never pass.

How bad-ass does this movie look from this trailer? Yeah it still feels gimmicky to the 10th degree but it oddly kinda works. Maybe it's because of the dialogue being missing (well not missing but in a different language) and there's no doubt this Timbor Bekmambetov is one hell of a visual genius.

BETTER IN HD
Finally McAvoy feels like he is leading the movie and not just observing it like a sidekick to a poor Angelina Jolie film. Less of the curvy bullets = more enjoyment from me.
I'm oddly finding myself looking forward to the movie now and all it took was a change of trailer.
Wanted opens June 27th worldwide. Still too many nods to The Matrix but let's hope it can stand on it's own.

Has their been actor so over-used, especially vocally in the last fifteen years?

Although I would have highly advised Universal to wait on a sequel to see how well the first movie performs, the word has come today that the haphazard studio have hired Derek Haas and Michael Brandt once again to scribe a follow-up to Wanted, what we presume is now being setup as a franchise.

The big cast adaptation of the Mark Millar graphic novel will open on June 27th worldwide and despite muted anticipation - at best - across the web, Universal can't see it under-performing...
“We’re just finishing up a book adaptation for Universal of the James Siegel novel Deceit. We’ve been hired to write the sequel to Wanted by the same studio,” Derek Haas revealed to Pajiba. “And we’ve got a few more things in the hopper that it’s a little premature to talk about.”
James McAvoy leads (despite Angelina Jolie's bigger presence in the posters) as a guy who finds out his long lost father is an assassin and is soon recruited by his father's organisation to follow in his footsteps.

Morgan Freeman, Common and Terrence Stamp co-star for Russian director Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch).

The film is reportedly budgeted at $65 million.

We've heard zip about Vadim Perelman's adaptation of one of the world's longest novels Atlas Shrugged since September and finally the news has leaked as to why, thanks to Coming Soon.

Perelman has been busy polishing the script and is now working on re-writes. You might think this has taken him a while to do but remember the WGA strike ate up at least three months of his time and the fact that the original text is some 645,000 words long.

Lionsgate say they want the film prepped ready for a December shoot and that Angelina Jolie is still very much committed to starring in the project.

Indeed, it's been the actress who has been spearheading the film this far down the road.

Anyone ever even attempted to read the novel? Trying to give you a brief synopsis would probably be futile, so instead I shall guide you to it's extensive WIKI entry.

Perelman's next movie The Life Before Her Eyes starring Uma Thurman opens next Friday. You can see that trailer HERE.

Review by Michael Kaminski

The life of Alexander the Great is such an ambitious and complicated subject matter that it would seem nearly impossible to translate it into a motion picture; the many sides to his personality, the vast cast of characters in his life, the complex political context he existed in, the immense scale of his life, and the uncountable deeds he did, tangled in a web of ambiguities, contradicting history, controversy and necessary interpretation. But if there is one person adept at tackling ambitious subject matter, it is Oliver Stone. Particularly suited to Alexander, he was in fact intimately familiar with the subject matter, having held a life-long personal interest in Alexander the Great. He sought to bring to the screen a portrait of the man that examined his personal life, without censorship, but that was also meticulously detailed and historically accurate, and on a scale that had been seldom seen in even the ...

Everytime I see James McAvoy or Angelina Jolie trying to curve the bullet in the trailer for the comic book adaptation of Wanted all I seem to be reminded off is imagining them playing table tennis on the Nintendo Wii.

I don't think I'm going to like this movie. Reminds me an awful lot of the cartoon action movie that was Shoot Em' Up but with better looking people, and the boring actor that Morgan Freeman has truly turned into.

Feels a decade too late after The Matrix and it might just be one notch above Jumper in the glossy CGI stakes...

Wanted Exclusive Trailer

Add to My Profile | More VideosI don't think McAvoy is right for this material at all and I'm struggling to take him seriously as an action star. Maybe this should have been the action movie that Brad Pitt starred in with Jolie instead of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

This screams WAIT FOR DVD but for those interested the movie opens on June 27th from acclaimed Russian director Timur Bekmambetov.

I have a feeling this might be our last update on Sin City 2 for a while. Frank Miller has responded to the comments that were posted yesterday from Michael Madsen who said he doubted the film would ever happen.

From Rotten Tomatoes...
"Sin City 2 is still likely to happen," says Miller, "just not right away. The script is written and Robert and I are raring to go, but it looks like I'm going to be doing The Spirit first and Robert's going to be doing Barbarella first."
No need to panic then guys. Miller & Rodriguez will finish off their projects and then get right to work on Sin City 2. Hopefully.

This delay might turn out as being a positive one for all of us hoping that Angelina Jolie will star in the movie because her slate is full right now and with news of her wanting to take a break from acting for a while, a late 2007 or early 2008 production start might suit her better.

Confirmation of Angelina Jolie's casting in the Sin City sequel has come through, surprisingly from an Italian website. Now, I don't speak the language myself but Comics 2 Film and Comic Book Resources are both happy enough to call it a confirmation and if you try and read the blurb, it does sound that way.

As I said a couple of weeks ago, this is just perfect. Rodriguez and Miller did a great job with casting the first movie with only Clive Owen being the exception. Man, I do like bashing the guy on this site, although his work in Inside Man I did praise!

Her portion of the sequel, A Dame to Kill For is just as bit as good as That Yellow Bastard or The Hard Goodbye that were translated so well in the original. Miller mentions that the movie could be ready for theatres as early as the end of next year, which I wouldn't rule out as the filming on Sin City took no time at all.

Perfect, perfect, perfect. If you have never read a Sin City story, go out and buy this one (or borrow it from your library). It's a great read.

According to Coming Soon, the reason that Robert Rodriguez decided to work on Grindhouse instead of shooting Sin City 2 this year was beacause he was waiting for the pregnant Angelina Jolie to have her baby so she can have one of the lead roles.

This probably won't suprise you. It's been heavily rumoured for some time that Jolie was up for the role of Ava in Sin City 2 but this, at least in my knowledge, is the first official line I have heard on the subject.

This is what she told Coming Soon...

"We talked about it and I read the comic.... I don't think the film is being made at this moment. When it's actually going to be made I'm sure we'll talk about it".

"It was a funny thing, because he idea came to me when I was pregnant...It was this idea of this sexy, violent and loud [character]... I thought maybe after I'm pregnant it would be nice to do."

Not quite an official confirmation, but I think the odds are certainly in favour of Angelina Jolie appearing in Sin City 2. I really like the sound of Jolie in the sequel, I can easily imagine her fitting into the ...
