Principal photography is set to begin in July on John Carpetenter's first movie in eight years, his psychological thriller The Ward, set in a mental institution where a young woman is haunted by a mysterious and deadly ghost.

We've known for a while that one of Hollywood's biggest young starlets Amber Heard will lead as Kirsten and now according to The Hollywood Reporter, another "scream queen", Friday the 13th's Danielle Panabaker will co-star. She will play a fellow patient, but a flirty one who faces electroshock therapy.

The legendary John Carpenter will direct his first film since 2001's Ghost of Mars, based on a script by rookie scribes Michael and Shawn Rasmussen (with revisions by Jim Agnew and Sean Keller who wrote Carpenter's so far undeveloped L.A. Gothic) at Echo Lake Entertainment and A Bigger Boat.

EIGHT long years since Carpenter made a movie... and in truth it's been a long longer since that he actually made something worthwhile. But I like the sound of this one, it's very classic Carpenter and will have that spine-tingling claustrophobia that he can project show well. Fingers crossed on this one, the recent glorious return of Sam Raimi to the genre fills me with hope that Carpenter can ...

Odette Yustman of CLOVERFIELD and THE UNBORN fame...

Are doing a movie together!

Jesus. I won't know where to look when they share scenes together.

The Hollywood Reporter say the movie is DARKNESS, a remake of a British thriller titled AND SOON THE DARKNESS from 1970. The remake will be co-financed by Studio Canal.

Heard will co-produce, commercials helmer Marcos Efron will direct. YOU LUCKY SON OF A BITCH!
Set in Argentina, "Darkness" tells the story of two American girls on a bike-riding trip in a remote part of the country. When one of them goes missing, the other must find her before darkness falls and her worst fears are realized.

The original was set in France and tackled the idea of how vulnerable a stranger in a strange land can be.
The original looked like this...

Heard has sure taken Sarah Michelle Gellar's mantle as the Blonde scream queen and she is certainly delighting horror fans like me.
We all know her ...

Yes!

THE RUM DIARY is definitely Johnny Depp's next movie, he shall once again play Hunter S. Thompson on the big screen. Well more accurately, he plays Paul Kemp the younger alter-ego of Thompson.

The Hollywood Reporter carry the news that the incredibly beautiful Amber Heard will play opposite him as the love interest Chenault, the free-spirited girlfriend of a fellow journalist who cheats on him with Kemp and trys to convince him to run away with her.

She has nabbed the role that was being coveted for A-listers Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johnasson, the latter possibly turned it down because of the nudity involved in the film.

But that hasn't put off Heard who we've already seen topless in the trailer for the Brett Easton Ellis adaptation THE INFORMERS and who it's said only has one scene in the movie where she is actually wearing clothes.

You may remember her name because only two days ago I reported she was to star in John Carpenter's new horror movie THE WARD (The Hollywood Reporter call it WARD 19). She was also Seth Rogen's love interest in THE PINEAPPLE EXPRESS and led ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE.

Her casting (Heard is 22) shows how young Depp (45) ...

John Carpenter revolved his legendary horror movie HALLOWEEN on the book shy, girl next door, rather nerdy Laure Strode (as played by Jamie Lee Curtis) and setup a genre stereotype of "final girl"which flooded three decades of the slasher genre.

But now times have changed. The horror genre has moved on and has now become accustomed to accommodating extraordinarily hot women as their leads. Girls like Mary Elizabeth Winstead for FINAL DESTINATION 3 and Amber Heard in ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE.

Sarah Michelle Gellar for THE GRUDGE. Naomi Watts for THE RING.

And now Carpenter has realised it too. He has hired Mandy Lane herself, Amber Heard to lead his long awaited return to horror...

She will star in THE WARD, an intense psychological thriller set in a mental institution where a young woman, Kristen (played by Heard) is haunted by a mysterious and deadly ghost. As danger creeps closer, she comes to realize that this ghost might be darker than she could have imagined.

From Brett Easton Ellis, the wonderfully vicious satirical author of American Psycho and The Rules of Attraction comes The Informers - the third adapted work from his back catalogue but THE FIRST he has played a hand in scripting for screen

The talented Gregor Jordan who helmed both Buffalo Soldiers and Ned Kelly - two under appreciated and underperformed movies deserves a much needed break with his third pic.

The seductive Amber Heard, Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke, Kim Basinger, Billy Bob Thornton, Rhys Ifans and Brad Renfro (in his last picture since his untimely death at 25 in January) star.

Like all of Ellis' work, the material looks/feels sexy, deals with narcissistic and unlikeable characters and looks completely different to what anyone else is giving us today. I've liked both Ellis' work on screen so far, I would love to see a knock-out third here.

We await a HD transfer of the trailer, probably because we don't quite know where or when it will be premiering. Possibly at the Toronto Film Festival?

There's always a new Judd Apatow movie on the horizon. You can't avoid them guys, he has too many people wanting to jump onto the bandwagon.

Opening in August (Sept for UK) is The Pineapple Express, a strange choice of film for the critically acclaimed indie director David Gordon Green who looks to give us his take on Pulp Fiction with his comedic drugs/gangster flick.

If you missed the brilliant red band trailer, you can see it HERE.

Well worth a look!

Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny McBride and Amber Heard are the main players and the pretty lame first poster can be seen below. Still lots of time for the guys to come up with something better because there ain't no way I would ever be interested in this movie if I knew nothing about it and only saw this...

Never Back Down yearns desperately to be the next answer to Fight Club, accumulating a heck of a lot of energy to be pounded recklessly upon its audience. But unfortunately the end result lacks serious cinematic clout.

It’s the story of rebellious, guilt-ridden temperamental teen Jake Tyler (Sean Faris). Jake is a troubled young man who blames himself for his father’s drunk driving death a few years ago. After a violent sporting incident with a school bully, who takes a dig at his old man, Jake finds himself relocating to Florida, along with his disapproving mother (Leslie Hope) and young smartarse brother Charlie (Wyatt Smith). His new Orlando College seems the idyllic American learning institution until he accidentally stumbles upon a secretive fighting contest, between two teens. Soon Jake comes to learn that chauvinistic rich kid Ryan (Cam Gigandet) is the competitive ringleader in a set of popular brutal tournaments and that he himself is personally targeted for the latest contest. Embarrassingly beaten to a pulp ...

[rating: 3.5]

I have to admit that I didn't read more than the brief synopsis of this film before I went to see it, a pretty slack approach on my part I know. (Sorry guys - I'll make it up to you!). Briefly summarising, it went as follows:

Mandy Lane. Beautiful. Untouched. High school royalty waiting to be crowned. Since the dawn of Junior year, men have tried to possess her. Some have even died in reckless pursuit of this 16 year-old Texas angel. Chloe and Red invite Mandy out to Red's family ranch for the weekend. Mandy sees it as an excellent opportunity to cement her new friendships. The boys see it as an opportunity to finally get with Mandy Lane. Driving across the Texas landscape, the kids begin to gently chip away at the wall that surrounds her. Joints are smoked. A keg is stolen off a beer truck. Pills are crushed to fine powder and inhaled. Mandy observes it all with ...
