Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin will host next year's Oscar ceremony it's been announced.

Not a pairing I imagine anyone could have come up with before today, but one that is kind of interesting/kind of exciting and not only that, it's kind of in the comfort zone of putting on an familiar and fitted pair of gloves (Martin) and kind of a new, rebellious sweater (Baldwin). The choice doesn't have the WOW surprise factor that Hugh Jackman's did last year, but I think it's still an experimental step in the right direction for the Academy.
One would presume that Martin and Baldwin will
play at hating each other, and trying to win the one
up-manship all night long with dry, witty and to the bone insults.
My only concern when people were pitching the name Steve Martin during the suggestions phase was a question a friend put to me a few years ago (sadly it's still relevant)... when was the last time he made you laugh? When was the last time Steve Martin was funny?

Think about it for a second or two. It's kind of scary to think how far back it was.

It's the first time more than one person has hosted the Oscars since ...

Last we heard, Sam Raimi had been chosen as the new figurehead of the Jack Ryan series of Tom Clancy novels which has so far seen four movies made in 15 years, and 3 different actors playing the C.I.A. agent, those being Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck.

It's expected that Raimi will move into work on the series late Summer when he is fully completed with his upcoming horror movie Drag Me to Hell and Paramount want the film due out in the Summer of 2010.

Now I can almost guarantee you that Paramount are desperate to get Harrison Ford back as Jack Ryan and doing it right now when his name is hot again.

Ford reveals his interest to The Sun...
"That's a character that I think you could revisit acknowledging the passage of time and his increasing age. It wasn't age dependent; that character and his experiences were chockablock full of recipes for good engaging movies, so that's a character I wouldn't mind revisiting."
Now I'm much happier to see Ford return as Ryan than I was Indy because as he says, it's not fully dependent on a young guy. However I have to say, I thought Ben Affleck did a ...

In 1988 Tim Burton released Beetlejuice, the story of two newly deads who must learn to deal with the new owners of their home. As a 12 year old this film was literally the greatest thing since sliced bread. It was both funny and scary and stranger than anything I had seen before. For me personally, Beetlejuice is the beginning of Tim Burton and the beginning of his own exciting genre of film.

We have all heard the term Burton-esque thrown around. While this was an immediate treasure for audiences, as time has gone on it has become played out and tiresome. I still enjoy the film, but it is easy to see in it the annoying patterns that Burton has yet to shake.

Story

Beetlejuice is a wonderfully creative story that was unlike anything else that we had seen. In the late 80's we had our chunk of Vietnam War dramas and Eddie Murphy cop movies. ...

Review by Matt Holmes

I don't think any words that I can articulate will do this movie justice. Martin Scorsese has nailed it. The Departed truly has to be up their with any work the legendary director has ever done (no small statement), man you know I hate it that Scorsese's best work in years is the crime genre because contrary to what most critics say... he is much more than a crime director but fuck it, THIS FILM IS AWESOME.

Worried, anxious, sweating on this remake of the 2002 Hong Kong flick Infernal Affairs was I for many months but I should have known better when it was one of the greatest living directors at the helm. This is not a basic retread. It's not just a hack remake job for a quick buck which we are too often given with new sheens ...
