Christopher Lee (Hammer's DRACULA, LORD OF THE RINGS) and Alan Rickman (SWEENEY TODD, DIE HARD), two of the greatest and most profilic screen villains of all time have joined Tim Burton's motion captured adaptation of ALICE IN WONDERLAND over at Disney.

Rickman will play the hookah-smoking Caterpillar but Lee's role is undisclosed.

Neither casting is all that surprising.

Rickman brought his A-Game to SWEENEY TODD and of course has one of the most recognisable villain voices in the industry.

Lee who was worked with Burton on SLEEPY HOLLOW and CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY was set to work with the director again on SWEENEY TODD, until Burton decided to cut the ghosts aspect from his tale. That was said to have pissed Lee off but it now looks like they have settled on their differences.

Also now confirmed for the movie is Danny Elfman, who will be scoring the film for his long time friend and partner. Elfman's skills, understandably, weren't need for TODD as the Stephen Sondheim music was already in place.

Elfman confirmed it last week...

Burton has put together an amazing cast...

Mia Wasikowska as Alice
Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter
Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen
Anne Hathaway as The White King
Alan Rickman as ...

Film: [rating: 2.5]
DVD Set: [rating: 5]
Even though the highly-lauded Sweeney Todd failed to receive much love at last month's Academy Awards, Dreamworks has pulled out all of the stops in this comprehensive collector's edition worthy of an Oscar winner.

THE FILM

I hate most musicals. The form usually falls into one of two formulas:

Musicals in which the characters break into song because they are part of a stage performance or theatrical spectacle. Films like Victor/Victoria, All That Jazz, and Chicago fall into this category. The characters are singing because they are stage performers, or onstage performing.
Musicals in which the characters break into song every time ...

Review by Matt Holmes

[rating: 5]

Sweeney Todd, the bloodiest of all the musicals, the closest shave of sinister and macabre and the glorious Victorian time period which brought out the very best of horror fiction writers Mary Shelley, Charles Dickens, Edgar Allen Poe, HG Wells and Bram Stoker.... who all lived through that dark and mysterious period.

We've already seen From Hell (which Depp also happened to star in) adapt the legend of the 19th century serial prostitute serial killing rapist Jack "The Ripper" into an interesting yet very conventional slasher movie from The Hughes Brothers but what of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street and the fanciful Tim Burton, a director who hasn't been this dark in a decade?

How would his first venture into a live-action musical turn out, where characters sing rather than talk to each other, and ...
