Brad Pitt is either the laziest actor in Hollywood, is humouring Columbia for a little while or he really, really likes the idea of starring in the baseball movie Moneyball, which it's been announced by Variety has finally found a new director in the form of Bennett Miller (Capote).

Amazingly, Pitt is still attached to the movie despite the director he signed on board to work with, Stephen Soderbergh, being kicked off the 96 hours short of filming when Columbia Pictures head Amy Pascal suddenly realised she had greenlight a $65 million movie about baseball statistics, and panicked over it's potential profits.

Pitt is still attached to play Oakland A’s manager Billy Beane,
who assembled a contending baseball club on a small budget
by employing a sophisticated computer-based analysis to draft players
Pascal gave Soderbergh/Pitt a weekend to find another studio who would finance their take on the picture but instead Soderbergh just walked off, and we all expected Pitt to follow suit, but several months have passed since and his name is still attached. At this point, it looks like he's actually going to make it.

Over the summer, Soderbergh spent at least $10 million on pre-production for his take on the ...

Details began to emerge yesterday that David Fincher's next movie post-Oscar nomination for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button might be in the world of online social networking.

Variety has him in "advanced talks" with Columbia Pictures to make The Social Network, which is the Facebook movie that Aaron Sorkin (Charlie Wilson's War, A Few Good Men) has been scripting and we spoke about in August.

The movie will cover the creation of the online phenomenon in 2004 and the life of Harvard sophomore Mark Zuckerberg (so it won't be a movie about people poking friends). It will be an adaptation of Ben Mezrich's upcoming non fiction novel The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal.

It doesn't surprise me at all that this movie is coming from Mezrich's blueprint, as I mentioned back in August the story potential is just the same as it was for 21, which was based on his memoir Bringing Down the House.

Another connection is that Kevin Spacey and Scot Rudin have crossed over to produce this movie too so you can begin to get a grasp of what this film is going to be like.

But what interest for Fincher? What is it about this material ...

We first spoke of THE CHALLENGE back in August, a book pickup by George Clooney based on Jonathan Mahler's legal thriller that told the true life tale of the long campaign by U.S. Navy lawyer Charles Swift and Georgetown law professor Neal Katyal to ensure a fair trial for the bodyguard and driver of Osama Bin Laden.

It's another interesting project for the politically conscious Clooney, who also eyed the project to lead and direct as well as produce.

Now comes word from Variety that he has gone right to the top in search of a screenwriter for the project. He has hired Aaron Sorkin, the man who made his film debut with the screenplay for the courtroom drama A FEW GOOD MEN, one of the best movies that genre has ever produced.

Since then Sorkin has wrote CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR and has wrote THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7 for Steven Spielberg.

Surely there was only ever one man to write this movie and that was he.

It's interesting that the trades claim the movie won't debate the innoncence of the accused but will instead chronicle the amazing efforts of the U.S. team in ensuring a fair trial Salim Hamdan who went as far as to sue the ...

The Hollywood Reporter say Ben Stiller is in, and they like to stress, "exploratory talks", to helm the DreamWorks 1968 period drama about the riots at the Democratic convention and their aftermath, which we have known for a good number of years now as THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7.

The studio are said to be desperate to move forward with the picture and now that Steven Spielberg is busy with TINTIN and Paul Greengrass is looking to prep BOURNE 4, they are likely to be considering more far reaching candidates for Aaron Sorkin's much lauded script.
Also working in Stiller's favour is the success of TROPIC THUNDER which apart from making $164 million worldwide, will have proven to them he can make a genre movie, handle a big ensemble cast of big name actors and for some, he even got some great direction credit.
Though of course that's a long way from suddenly becoming the guy who replaces Spielberg and helms a movie from the writer of A FEW GOOD MEN which delves into the real life moments of a historically significant event. I mean, Phillip Seymour Hoffman was once rumored for this film.. can you imagine him working under and taking ...

Aaron Sorkin, the writer and playwright of such respected works as Charlie Wilson's War, A Few Good Men and Spielberg's so far unproduced Trial of the Chicago 7 - has revealed on his newly created Facebook page that he is making a movie based on the popular social networking site.

Though it won't be about sending poke's, stalking your old school mates or desperately trying to get laid - it will actually be based around how a group of college students created a social juggernaut and made themselves billionaires in a short space of a few years.

"I've just agreed to write a movie for Sony and producer Scott Rudin about how Facebook was invented. I figured a good first step in my preparation would be finding out what Facebook is, so I've started this page. (Actually it was started by my researcher, Ian Reichbach, because my grandmother has more Internet savvy than I do and she's been dead for 33 years.)"
Facebook was founded just over four years ago by Harvard University Student Mark Zuckerberg who Forbes Magazine claim is "[the] youngest billionaire on earth and possibly the youngest self-made billionaire ever," with a estimated net gross of around 1 and a ...

Review by Matt Holmes

[rating: 2.5]

Political biopics met with a 30's style adult comedy satire isn't something I believe audiences were craving to see and after sitting through a fast flowing 89 minutes of Charlie Wilson's War, I can't say I am overly keen to visit it again.

It's not like Charlie Wilson's War is a bad movie, far from it in fact. It's terrifically made from British veteran Mike Nichols whose last film made me wanna pick up a shotgun and violently kill all four leads of his over-dramatic morality play Closer but I was still left confused and frustrated by his intentions here.

Is this movie really just about Tom Hanks travelling the world, doing cocaine, drinking, having sex and meeting people... because that's just about all I cam remember from this.

Badly mis-cast as the drinking, womanizing but smart and intelligent Congressman, Tom Hanks is Charlie Wilson... the man who pushed ...
