Casting Couch #3 – Wonder Woman

Casting couch is a weekly feature where I will take a look at a coveted movie role for an upcoming project and run down the five leading contenders. (not the top 5 i think SHOULD have the role, but the top five who are MOST TALKED about).

This weeks movie is Wonder Woman, which will be helmed by Buffy creator Joss Whedon. The movie has been in development hell for quite some time now, rumoured to be because of problems with scripts and the casting of the lead.

Let’s try and help him out and take a look at the contenders. This role requires a strong, feisty female who is tough enough for you to believe she is a serious superhero.

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Sarah Michelle Gellar, 29

Resume for film – Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Has shown she can play a tough female action hero in Buffy to enormous success. Worked with Whedon on that show for many years and is still relatively young at 29. For Wonder Woman though, she doesn’t have the big frame of the character.

Eliza Dushku

Eliza Dushku, 25

Resume for role: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Tru Calling

Again worked with Whedon on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Is an extremely underrated actress and certainly has the look, build and bust. Has played tough female characters in Buffy, Wrong Turn and her own tv show Tru Calling. Has the advantage over Gellar in that her past roles haven’t been so big that she isn’t seen as one character.

charisma

Charisma Carpenter, 36

Resume for role – Angel

Again worked with Whedon on Buffy and Angel. Much like Dushku, she has the look, build and bust of the character. Has played this sort of character quite well in that series and like Dushku is famous but not to famous for the role.

Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz, 34

Resume for role – Charlie’s Angels

Her name was spoken about when it was first announced that Whedon was to bring Wonder Woman back to the screen. Certainly is a HUGE star but doesn’t have the look or build of the character for me and is probably to old at 34 for a role they wish to spring a franchise from.

Evangeline Lilly

Evangeline Lilly, 26

Resume for film – Lost

Getting lots of recognition from her role in Lost. Certainly plays a tough and feisty character in that tv show but although muscular she may not quite have a big enough frame for the role. And with Lost as big as it is right now, it would be difficult to watch her in Wonder Woman and not think of her character Kate.

So folks take a look at the contenders there and leave a comment in the post about which actress YOU think should play Wonder Woman. You do not just have to be restricted to that choice, you can add your own to the mix also.

My Pick – Eliza Dushku

The role eventually went to – Still uncast

Dushku! Dushku!!!!!!
She’s absolutely perfect for the role. she’s got tough and independant just like wonder woman.
no to mention gorgeous like her too.
I think she’s the best for the role
either her or catherine zeta jones. She has that unique wonder woman look to her.

I know a wonder woman movie would be awesome. I’m not too crazy about the options except for Dushku.
If they are looking for someone close to resembling wonder woman, they could ask me to do it. Growing up and even now people tell me I look like Lynda Carter and I’m also an actress.
