As a child growing up in the 80s, becoming mystified, enthralled, petrified, and perplexed by the audacious wizardry of Steven Spielberg,George Lucas,Robert Zemeckis,Richard Donner not to mention Jim Henson’s truly terrifying and intriguing band of puppets, Oliver knew his place in the world was to conquer the unparalleled essence of cinema. Alfred Hitchcock, Brian De Palma, David Cronenberg and Dario Argento served to relentlessly strengthen an impervious sensibility to cinematic extremes. As a consequence few films will disturb his unflinching eye, though he admits to being susceptible to sudden jolts surfacing from the soundtrack.

Since undertaking a degree in Film Studies at Middlesex University and then successfully completing a Post Graduate Certificate at the British Film Institute in 2005, Oliver has become a freelance writer and film critic, recently submitting his views to Senses of Cinema and writing regular features and reviews for Dim Sum: The British Chinese community website, Hecklerspray and Montage.
