POSTER: PROM NIGHT

I have no idea what’s going on in this poster for the PROM NIGHT remake, and I all I can think of is how similar it is to last years 80’s horror redo BLACK CHRISTMAS.

Here’s the new PROM NIGHT poster…

prom-night.jpg

And the poster for BLACK CHRISTMAS, last year’s festive horror flop…

black_christmas_ver3.jpg

The original PROM NIGHT was pretty pathetic and let’s not kid ourselves, this remake will probably have a had time actually being worse than the 27 year old movie.

Still it has a small place in all our hearts for those of us who grew up with the horror movement from this decade.

Will Brittany Snow be as charming as Jamie Lee Curtis though?

The movie’s director Nelson McCormick quickly went into pre-production on the remake of the 80s horror THE STEPFATHER with SIX FEET UNDER’S Dylan Baker soon after making PROM NIGHT. We know that SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT, THE FLY, SCANNERS, FRIGHT NIGHT, FRIDAY THE 13TH, CHILD’S PLAY, THE FLY, TERROR TRAIN and so many more are either being eyed for remakes, or are currently in production on remakes and this comes just 12 months after remakes of BLACK CHRISTMAS, THE HITCHER and HALLOWEEN (not 80’s, but close enough).

When will this horror madness end?

Look for PROM NIGHT in April.

POSTER: THE DARK KNIGHT

It was only a couple of weeks go I was moaning because I thought it was about time we had some official artwork and footage for next year’s much anticipated second of probably three Christopher Nolan Batman movies, THE DARK KNIGHT.

Now we’ve had a full length trailer (although bootlegged), a prologue attached to I AM LEGEND, a domestic and international poster and now two more posters to feast our eyes on…

jokerposter.jpg

And a really cool and inventive one…

jokerposter2.jpg

Is this heavy marketing all a bit soon?

The movie doesn’t come out till the back end of July but we are sure being bombarded with stuff at the moment.

Really love the second poster. It’s guaranteed to catch your eye in the movie theatre.

Word is the HD quality trailer will be up on Sunday HERE. Can’t wait.

Heath Ledger, the new Lon Chaney?

Ok, maybe that comparison is a bit much but I’m getting goosebumps I haven’t had with a ‘monster’ performance since I saw the original silent version of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. The great Lon Chaney use to transform himself completely into the many villainous roles he played on screen, and my God Heath Ledger looks to have done the same thing with The Joker.

Don’t know how long this will stay up, or how long until we get a quicktime version, but here’s the god damn trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT…

Love the score has stayed the same. Hope it grows with the new movie, as Batman’s persona in Gotham does too.

And what’s that we see at the end. Is that a showdown between Batman on a vehicle and the Joker with a gun?

Haven’t we seen that before…

I will save my full thoughts until we see it in HD quality, but I love what I’m seeing so far. Now catch the trailer quick before it disappears.

3 minute CGI crap-infested sequence for I AM LEGEND

Yikes, if the opening sequence to I AM LEGEND is anything to go by then we are all set for one big crap-infested special effects disaster.

i-am-legend.png

The first three minutes of the film have been uploaded to Yahoo but man it looks terrible. Will Smith is driving around trying to knock down just one of the dozens of horrid looking computer generated deer and it’s just so unbelievable it looks ridiculous.

And it’s the first big deviation from the novel, and it’s right in the opening minutes. There’s always been a nagging somewhere within me that with CONSTANTINE director Francis Lawrence on board, this would always be a danger…

CLICK HERE TO SEE THE OPENING SEQUENCE

Maybe there’s still hope. It’s clear that even with the third attempt, there still hasn’t been an adaptation that has done Richard Matheson’s classic story correctly but I just hope this is an exciting version that I can get into despite the dodgy special effects.

Oh and for those wondering, that prologue for THE DARK KNIGHT can be seen in only two IMAX cinema’s in the U.K. according to a guy in the know over at the BOF Message Boards

BFI London IMAX Cinema
1 Charlie Chaplin Walk
London, SE1 8XR
871-787-2525

Odeon Manchester
6-8 Dantzic St.
Manchester, M4 2AD
870-588-8999

For the full U.S. list, click here.

There are rumors going around that this sequence might be officially uploaded to the web next week after all, so maybe those without access to these IMAX screens in the U.K. might get a chance to see it after all.

Could the next Bond movie be titled 007?

007Once again just like the previously rumored title THE PROPERTY OF A LADY, I really hope the next Bond movie will not be called 007.

That title makes zero sense.

It will forever confuse people as to what movie it is in continuity and in three films time when they have movies with long titles again, it will always be the one to stick out.

If your calling it 007, you might as well just call the movie BOND, if you want something defining and confusing to audiences.

Give it a real title, something a little less dull please people.

And no before you mention it, it’s not the same as calling Batman’s second movie THE DARK KNIGHT. 007, is a three digit number… THE DARK KNIGHT is a proper frikkin’ title.

So which director has WB resurrected for CLASH OF THE TITANS?

He hasn’t worked for four years, probably because of how awful his last movie was but British director Stephen Norrington has finally accepted an offer to return to the director’s chair. And it’s for a pretty huge movie too.

Norrington who debuted with BLADE in 1998 but hasn’t directed a movie since the 2003 flop THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN will helm the remake of the cult classic 80’s fantasy movie CLASH OF THE TITANS.

It’s pretty clear that Norrington was far from the first choice for Warner Brothers.

We know that they first went after Sam Raimi and when that attempt failed they moved to the currently out of work Robert Rodriguez but he would turn them down to, despite loving Lawrence Kasdan’s (RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK) script.

God knows who else they went for in between, but somehow they have ended up with a director who had seemingly lost his passion for the medium.

I really hated with a vengeance what Norrington did to the superb Alan Moore graphic novel and it’s horrible to think that his poor direction is likely to be remembered for being the last movie role for the great Sean Connery but I did like his original BLADE movie.

And well he has a filmography that suggests he began his career in the special effects industry, even working on James Cameron’s ALIENS movie.

I knew Norrington would be back but coming back on board such a huge project is really playing with the fire. And ya know what happens when you play with fire.

WB will release this movie in 2009/2010 with production to begin sometime next year (I believe the script has been turned in, so it’s pre-strike if needed) and expect all of Ray Harryhausen’s original effects to be updated to the CGI crap that plagued Norrington’s last film.

I love it when a plan comes together…

John SingletonConfirmation has come through. John Singleton will be directing THE A-TEAM, with the original show’s creator on board as a producer.

The Oscar nominated director (BOYZ IN THE HOOD) revealed the news to Black Voices and also announced that he is not attached to direct EXECUTIVE ORDER: SIX as claimed by Variety a few weeks back.

No word if this has always been the case, or whether he was on board for it but just pulled out.

The expected $100 million budgeted A-TEAM flick is likely to be a go in the late Summer and it will mark the second adapted show to screen for Singleton having already helmed the SHAFT movie earlier this decade.

This material is a perfect fit as far as I’m concerned and I have far more faith in this project with Singleton on board than previously. Yes he made 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS and FOUR BROTHERS but I like to think that he’s a little older and wiser now, he can put his unquestioned talents on a film that has an opportunity to be good from the outset.

INTERNATIONAL POSTER: THE DARK KNIGHT

I’m so-so with this poster.

I love the themes of it and what it is trying to represent. The idea of Batman being behind bars and trapped within the confines of Gotham is a firm part of his mythos, but ya know I needed the logo and the title above to just be a tad bigger.

Still pretty cool colours though. It’s another sure sign that they are changing the gold/yellow/black colour scheme of BATMAN BEGINS, into this very cold blue.

Here’s the International Poster for the flick, which basically means the one that will be put up in the U.K…

darkknightintbig.jpg

Batman’s suit just look so awesome from this view. Looks like the classic style costume, and this cover is something that is so reminiscint of a comic book issue.

Still Chicago at times doesn’t feel like the Gotham I grew up reading. It did at times in BEGINS but others it just felt like Chicago. But I guess that’s a small nitpick. Thankfully there’s no Statue of Liberty like in BATMAN FOREVER!
